Training mode isn't a tutorial. It's a training mode. Nothing to tell you how to play the game at a decent level. You have to go online, read or watch someone explain super basic mechanics like special canceling, explaining motions, footsies, how to get out of pressure.
You have to remember this is an age of gamers who get pissy and discouraged when you don't tell them the jump button. And if you want more players you have to tell them how to press the jump button because even if 1 out of every 100 of those who bought it would stay the player base would double.

It happens every fucking game. I blame Capcom with their fucking stupid point system. Once you get passed 1500 points, it's so hard to gain points compared to losing them.
Half of my matches I end up fighting someone with more than 500 points than me and I obviously lose and then I'm out about 100 points. Find another match, destroy someone with less than 500 points than me and gain 55.
Repeat that process forever. There's no penalty for quitting and the people with over 3000 points will ALWAYS quit if you're about to beat them.

The issue is this: setplay and okizeme focused strategies are in no way inherently bad things. Some characters win by just being solid, others win by relying on shenanigans, and so on. In an attempt to match you with other people so that you're not fighting the same noob over and over grinding points, what happens is that you just wait 3 minutes instead to get matched with the same guy. The only reason Gief shit on Guile in 4 was because of EX boogerfinger, Siberian Blizzard, and his ridiculous cross-up corner shit that Guile was highly weak to. He doesn't have 2 of those things and Siberian Blizzard was replaced by an EX air grab that may or may not have enough priority/active frames to go through a Flash Kick. Combine that with Gief's generally poor mobility and it spells disaster for this matchup but we'll see as time passes what will actually happen with it. I just imagine the fight going a lot like the matchup against Nash but far more frustrating.

SFV has the most staying-power of any game you guys are talking about in this thread. SF4 had it's ups and downs but once fighting games got back into some of the limelight towards the end of SF4, the player base blew up and streams got way more viewers.

A lot of the high level Lauras I fight do annoying cross under resets that completely fuck me up.
She can also punish whiffed sweeps and st.HKs with her MP Elbow.
I'm honestly sick to death of fighting her at this point. I have no trouble against Silver/Gold Mika but Laura's mix ups seem OP as fuck once she gets in.

But KI's tourney scene is dead. It has few entrants and top 8 is more predictable than the characters that show up in 3S grand finals. It's lucky to have such a dedicated online playerbase otherwise it would be completely dead.
