That's the problem with buying these things. When people hear metal or steel, they think that they are getting something heavy or durable. But most of the time it's just something that fits the metal description and might not even be worth the price. Like how apple used thin aluminum for their for their phones for that "premium feel" only to have the phones bend because they are made of fucking thin aluminum.
Black Ops III's current system is pretty horrible.
Up to (and even after) release, Treyarch maintained that the "Black Market" system would be cosmetic only, and would not involve microtransactions. You play the game, get these little unlock points, and then spend them to randomly get skins, taunts, or whatever. And that's how it was.
At release.
Fast-forward to now, they've introduced a number of "Black Market Updates", which both add the ability to purchase those unlock points with cash money *and* adds unique items only obtainable through it. Not re-skins. Unique weapons.
This is shitty for a couple of reasons. Firstly, the whole bald-faced-lying-to-your-customers deal. That's pretty bad. But even worse, I'd say, is the fact that they didn't actually give you the option to *buy* the items. They gave you the option to buy the points that you can spend to hopefully get the items randomly in a box! Holy shit! There are stories of people out there who dropped half a grand on the game and didn't get squat.
It's just ugly. The whole thing is hideously blatant money-grubbing. I know I shouldn't expect much from Call of Duty, but god damn I'd never seen anything like this.

I made a similar mistake.
I bought Orange Box for 360 expecting to mostly play HL2 and Portal, but TF2 turned out to be by far the most fun.
So I played on 360 for quite a long time, until eventually Valve did that random ass sale around Halloween where TF2 was only like $1
It hurts to know that I've been playing TF2 since release, but in game I got that shitty bronze badge that literally every F2P player got

The only Collector's Edition I ever bought was Catherine on the 360, and I always thought it was good for the price.
I think it was like 80 or 90 dollars, and you got a pillow cover, shirt, boxers, soundtrack, and the game in a posh little pizza box from the games restaurant hub.
