ToD was mind blowing at first, smashing a ton of crates and seeing hundreds of HD bolts flying at you.

about the new one:
i love what they did.
>hey remember Ratchet 1?
>remember dated graphics,no strafing and poor weapon systems?
>well remember no longer, we fixed everything and made it up to par to the rest of the series
>as a bonus we sprinkled some nostalgia all over it

the new game is pretty good, granted i'm not done yet, but i am 5 hours in.
love how you can replace the bolts with legopieces/rupees/sonic Rings.
>>
>>335168116
Finaly, that or CiT.

How did they even get away with most of the dialogue from Dallas, I will never know.
>>
>>335167782
do you think they will port the PS3 ratchet and clanks along with the HD PS2 games to the PS4? i really don't want to buy a PS3
>>
>>335170754
The writing for the new game is horrible though and ratchet and clank 1 is a better game still.

although the worst thing in ratchet and clank 1 was having to add up every ammo for every weapon one at a time.
>>
>>335168116
i loved how your combat bots were just straight niggas and stone cold killas. deadlocked was fucking great

the writing in ratchet 1 is also pretty bad, especially dick ratchet in the beginning.
>>
>>335170970
>ratchet future collection
>ToD + QfB + ACiT + Nexus@60fps
man that would be awesome, however i feel like this is very possible if ratchet becomes popular again.
i doubt that they will port ratchet 1, they would want to avoid confusion and would rather have you buy the new one.
>>
>>335171216

how was he a dick? he was just a bit of a 2cool4you dudebro. which he still is kind of.
>>
>>335171545
ratchet and clank don't get along in the original.
i mean you could call this "character progression" but it just makes ratchet very unlikable.
>>
>>335168116
Really wish they'd make a sequel to this.
>>
>>335167782
I still prefer the first one. Yes, even after the "remake".
>>
>>335167782
Up Your Arsenal was good too, but yeah 2 and 3 were the best. I'm enjoying this one but why did they get rid of Challenge Points? That added a pretty decent amount of replayability to the game
>>
>>335168116
This so much. Got it in a bundle with Jax X
>>
>>335167990
That was good though.
>>
>>335171402
>not creating a two game bundle
>replay the classic which started it all and its Qwarktastic Remake based on the hit movie!
>>
UYA is basically the peak of the series, although it feels a bit too orange overall. Particularly the HUD.

GC with 5-level upgrading would be GOAT.
>>
>>335173226
>1 best ost
>2 best level design
>3 best weapon variety
>4 best replayability
What would you put PS3 on?
>>
I think 3 was overall the best, but I have more nostalgia for 2.
>>
>>335173482
2 had the best ost you triple nigger, and 4 was the least replayable of them all.
>>
>>335173482
4 is deadlocked i assume?
anyways. for PS3:
CiT > TOD > Nexus > QfB
i wonder if we get another trilogy on PS4, i sure hope so.
>>
>>335173767
Anon please, that bounce and synth in one along with less strings being used makes it godly. Envokes nostalgia despite two being first.

I replayed the game before my disk broke 20 times man. I dunno how much replay value I got out of it, including online.
>>
>>335173986
*my first
>>
>>335172384
You mean skill points? Skill points were just literally achievements by other name. That's why skill points are now turned into trophies completely. Into the Nexus already had same thing going even if it had in-game skill points still.

>>335167990
You mean protopet boss? That boss was such a letdown that it still turns me off from the game.
>>
>>335167990
fun fact: you can skip this by using weapon mods, before passing through the barrier to start the fight you can shoot it with your weapons and if you have the acid or shock mod it will hurt him. It takes awhile with having to go back to the vendor to buy more ammo but once you do it enough when you start the start it will immediately end.
>>
>>335171216
The fact that Ratchet isn't a dick in the reboot pisses me off, Ratchet was a selfish asshole that only cared about himself and grew to become the hero that he is now
>>
Favorite weapon from GC and UYA?

GC: Mega Mini-Nuke
UYA: Rift Inducer or Suck Cannon
>>
>>335174925
Hence why it's a reboot/re-imagining/remake.
>>
>>335174995
they all blend together for me since i played the in a marathon for the first time right after CiT came out.
i remember the lava gun being awesome.
Nexus had that christmas themed gun that always did nice jingles, loved that.
the new one has the pixelizer shotgun and good ol' groovitron. granted i haven't seen em all yet.
>>
GC and UYA are frequently at the top of my list for me, I lean more towards GC but my preference between the two changes on a whim. I prefer GC for it's level design, enemy variety, better arena bosses FROM PLANET CEREBELLA COMES A COLOSSAL CREATION, mini-games, ship combat, music, and general aesthetics and tone. But I also prefer UYA for it's gameplay refinements, Dr. Nefarious and the rest of it's story and characters, weapon roster, and the Starship Phoenix.
>>
>>335175143
Which was not needed in the first place, I'd rather have a movie that is more like the original PS2 Trilogy with it's own original plot which would of had it be PG-13ish but of course they wanted to make it PG family friendly.
>>
Hard to argue whether GC or UYA is superior, when they are both excellent games. Kind of like Timesplitters 2 and Future Perfect.
>>
>>335170754
>love how you can replace the bolts with legopieces

I think they are supposed to be like the Sly coins. The eco spheres are pretty cool too
>>
>>335176034
Except that R&C plot is all kinds of fucked.

>which would of had it be PG-13ish
The original trilogy is rated 3+ by ESRB. It's always been a family friendly series.
>>
>>335170754
>hey remember Ratchet 1?
>remember great story and good character development?
>well remember no longer, we removed both things so you just need to focus on shooting things
>as a bonus we removed some of the best planets
>>
>>335176796
This. I was gonna say

>As a bonus we removed shit tons of combat, made the bouncer a pre-order item and also changed up the story so that it's a glorified movie tie in

The bouncer part pisses me off. The story is the straw that broke the camels back. What was great about the first game's story was Rachet and Clank actually maturing, especially Rachet.
>>
>>335176796
The only character with real growth was Ratchet and the story wasn't that special. I don't know why people pretend like it's so ridiculously good.

>>335176974
>made the bouncer a pre-order item
Sony has made them do pre-order things for each R&C game. Also, it was never going to be in the game in the first place. It was made for that specific purpose.

>and also changed up the story
It's a fucking re-imagining/remake/reboot. Of course the story is going to be altered.
>>
>>335177190
And funnily enough after 1 Ratchet never really develops any more character. Neither does anyone else, really. Yet people still like 2 & 3 most.
>>
>>335167782
I honestly never got the appeal of Going Commando instead of Up Your Arsenal? It feels simpler, more grindy and in a lot of cases, quite awkward compared to the sequel. The space parts, races, arenas etc. just don't quite fit as well. Can someone explain?
>>
>>335170754

>well remember no longer, we fixed everything and made it up to par to the rest of the series
The fixed only strafing, and broke everything else.
>>
>>335177482
That doesn't make any sense whatsoever.
>>
>>335168116
This game had awesome multiplayer. It was the first online game i ever played too. Iplayed thatshit for hours on end
>>
>>335177343
>I haven't played UYA
>>
>>335177482
well "fixing" might be the wrong word.
they just made it more consistent with the rest of the series.
the gun upgrading and the fun techtree for guns, the healthbar.
i feel like that's what they tried to achieve (along with making a movie tie in.)
you can go back to every ratchet game, and they all pretty much play the same, except for ratchet 1 wich is the only true outlier in the mainline series.
>>335176449
hmm maybe, they don't really loom like coins, but like lego single dot pieces.
sonic rings have a great sound and visual, probably my fav so far.
>>
How did Insomniac put out three 9/10 games with just 12 months inbetween?
>>
>>335177905
somehow they made like 8 good mainline ratchet games, while also making resistance, while also making shitty spin off ratchet games, while also making fuse, while also making sunset overdrive, and while now making some 2D game and 3 VR experiences.
they should just stick to ratchet
>>
>>335177905
The first one is a 7/10.
Both the second and third are 8/10, not really 9/10.

But yeah, it's kinda surprising.
>>
>>335177710
While Ratchet doesn't really care for his part in Secret Agent Clank there's nothing much different to the character.

Clank? Clank's Clank. He gets his moments only during ACiT more or less.

Qwark? Stupid plans that work, otherwise the same.

Al? Same. Helga? Same.

Who am I missing?
>>
>>335174995
GC: Bouncer
UYA: Infector
>>
>>335177190
>For each R&C game

Except the first four, because you know you can't have pre-order items be added in game on a PS2. At least, I don't remember any bullshit like that.

>Of course the story is going to be altered

That doesn't change the fact that it's a shit alteration. It was the only game in the series that had some proper character development. And now they rebooted it and got rid of it.
>>
>>335177905
Isn't their lead programmer or someone basically an autistic prodigy? I remember in the developer interview/Let's Play for GC they mentioned it. The fact that he could get any problem fixed within minutes is probably a lot of that.

Just throwing this one out there for those who might not have seen it, there's a Let's Play done by two of the developers for GC and UYA: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VK6eeS1LPFQ&list=PLBE216F8E761D085C

You aren't supposed to. He was an asshole. He grew into a likable person. That's called character development, which is usually part of a successful and good story.

Yes, the fucking main protagonist of the series. It's better than every other title in which he's just a sarcastic lovable oaf with no real development.

Anyone else really, really like Quest for Booty? I liked how they emphasized the platforming. The rail section in the beginning was great, and the 2 puzzles were fun.

Obviously it would be silly to list it as my favorite (~2 hours long, 5 weapons, etc) but for what it was, they did a bang on job. Comfy as fuck planet, and actually challenging fights.

Also, Talwyn a cute and Rusty Pete goat villain

No, I mean I never cared for the fact that he was selfish and had growth from it.

>Yes, the fucking main protagonist of the series. It's better than every other title in which he's just a sarcastic lovable oaf with no real development.
In future trilogy he wants to find the rest of his species though but ends up preventing Azimuth from bringing them back and shit (for a good reason too). Not to mention in Nexus (while my memory is fuzzy about it) Dimensionator could've also helped him out with that but no.

>This excuse is invalid shit and I see retards using it all the time.
How the fuck is it invalid? How the fuck did this remake suddenly make it disappear from existence?

When I played Ratchet 1-4, I did not actually have high speed personal Internet. Yes, I had NO INTERNET. I did not discuss games with other gamers, and I did not know what a "fandom" is. Thank God I didn't.

Which means, when I played a game, I formed my own opinion, instead of borrowing one from the majority of "other fans". I had no problems with Ratchet 1. I never had a problem with Ratchet 1. But when I got my own Internet, I learned that the popular opinion was that the game had bad character writing, and I apparently have to hate it now.

Fuck this. I never had a problem with the game, I never will. True Fans can go to Hell.

Deadlocked was quite fun, but it misses what makes Ratchet and Clank 1-3 really good.

Some of the designs in Dreadlocked were hella amazing though anon.

Have you ever really looked at the containment area, or the storm planet? Orxon's mining facility looks spot on for a Blargian world too, and shit like the Puma and Landstaker look great, especially the hovership, not to mention the Ghost Station

Also, the dialogue and writing was amazing, the fuck are you talking about. "Its cold, its dank, its scary, its just like my ex-wife", the entirety of Dallas's dialogue on the final countdown to the station blowing up, Vox News being Fox News and spreading massive slander, it was one of the best things the game had anon.

Quark was never funny. He was a failed hero with the personality of a jealous chimp, who fucked a actual chimp, constantly got in the way and only slightly redeemed himself in 3 and then promptly became absolutely useless and a massive dumb as a brick coward again.

People are right to say it's missing some of the charm that made the first three Ratchet games so GOAT to so many. Weaker level design plus no playable Clank. The (comparatively) grimdark setting is balanced out by some of the series best humour imo.

But this is my personal favourite.

I think the Arena challenges (especially the gauntlets you have to run before you fight a boss) are fun as fuck and hugely underrated. Had some of the best weapons of any game in the series too.

This, right here. I loved the weapons, and the challenges, and how you could seriously grind out your equipment (and that you could only go above level 7 weapons, I think, after beating the game).

The biggest thing I wish they would've done is to make a "free roam" style of each planet, where you could actually explore the entire map in one unbroken segment.

But then again, I'm the type of gamer who can find enjoyment in nearly any game, unless it's abjectly terrible. I recently played All 4 One, and enjoyed it plenty even though it's fairly different and mostly looked down on. Surprisingly, people were still playing it online, although it might've been in anticipation of the reboot game and movie. But it was great for what it was, and honestly amazing that they managed to make it both online AND couch co-op compatible, at the same time. How many games boast couch co-op at all anymore, much less having it be completely compatible with online co-op?

I still say:

>Going Commando had the best mini-games and sidestuff.
>Up Your Arsenal is just straight up the best traditional-style R&C game overall.
>Deadlocked has the best comedy and multiplayer.
>Crack in Time has the best Clank sections and platforming.

And while I'm only halfway done with my Challenge Mode playthrough, I think R&C might just have the best combat (and aesthetics obviously) in the series. Shame the story is so obviously incomplete though, because if not for that (and the lack of an arena) it might have cracked into my top 3 for the series.
>>
>>335196209
Your opinion is okay, and mine is irrelevant.

However, I want to bring up the fact that, after R&C3, you can OP yourself in challenge mode. You can OP yourself SO HARD, nothing will be a challenge.

Insomniac never fixed that. So, to have some challenge, you have to replay the games, and re-do all the skill points.

Anyone else pleasantly surprised with the OST in the new game?

It's not as good as David Bergaud's stuff, but a lot of it still distinctly 'feels' like a proper R&C ost - even with the obvious orchestral influence/elements.

Not like he has much competition. Drek is basically just Kevin Michael Richardsons voice, and since they removed him with a phoning it in Paul Giamatti so he's worthless now. Tachyon is okay but very rarely great. Thugs 4 Less are hilarious but never threatening. The Prog siblings are cool, but they're only antagonists for half of their short game. The only villain near Nefarious' level is Captain Slag and he's only the secondary villain of his game.
>>
Is the new game any good? I saw it pretty cheap (for Australia) and was thinking about getting it. My thumb is fucked at the moment, so I'll have to wait a week or 2 anyway.
>>
>>335202760
It's a reboot of the first game.

It features a lot of the worlds from the first game remastered to a beautiful level.

However, some of the most impactful levels of the original game were cut, partially due to the movie tie-in, partially due to modern development taking a fuckload more time to do the graphics right. Gemlik, Orxon, Oltanis, and Veldin(being destroyed) are the most notable ones.

Many levels are 1:1 recreations surprisingly which is an extremely nostalgic blast to the past when playing them.

The original Ratchet and Clank's actual combat aged like milk so being able to play it with modern controls is new.

Weapon selection is somewhat disappointing, taking very few of the original game's weapons and reusing many weapons from across the series. Zurkon shows up yet again.

This is an actual spoiler, Nefarious is the final boss instead of Drek.

If you're not very nitpicky, or never played the first game, then it's pretty great. If you have played the first game though, some of the changes and cuts might feel a bit jarring.
>>

For the most part, they are. Strafing really adds a lot to the combat as you can just jump around like a ninja and blast enemies while switching weapons and just loading the screen with the chaos of blasts and explosions. First game's controls might not have been bad, but it basically felt like Spyro with guns and at times Ratchet felt kind of clunky compared to what he controls like from the second game and onward.
>>
>>335217454
Actually yes. The Ratchet and Clank series builds off each game really. However I would argue that in the PS3 Future era Insomniac gets a bit lazy with a few weapons. And by that I mean Mr Zurkon and The Groovatron
>>
>>335217454
How far are you into the first game? Ratchet starts out as a cynical 2cool4you dude, but he gets better. The game also gets better as you buy more and more varied types of guns. But if you still don't like it, no worries. The sequels are infinitely better.
