Holy fuck all these people incessantly saying shit like "there's nothing wrong with motion controls just git gud grandpa :^)" are so annoying.

It's never a bad thing for a game to try new things, but they should be optional. I really hope the controls aren't that difficult to adjust to. I don't even use them in Splatoon.
>>
>>335151902
So how do you defend the game being 3 hours long
>>
>>335154647
It's twice as long as 64
>>
>>335151902
You're forced to use gyro controls? Fucking seriously?
>>
Is it just me or are the difficulty of controls by mainstream reviewers have been extremely over-exaggerated? Sure they do take some time getting used to, but the learning curve isn't that bad. Hell, I'd even say that the controls add so much to the game to make it feel really unique.

They had gyro controls on the remake of 64. They had to make am easy mode called gyro mode because gyro is retarded unless it's your only option.

Because as Reggie said during the reveal that with the Wii we played lots of a games together but with the Wii U they focus on "U" the gamer. Gamers like to have options so this goes against that whole speech.

>>
The gyro controls are shit. They worked fine in Splatoon but they're complete shit in SF0.

And fuck the chicken walker.
>>
>>335159110
Mission accomplished in Venom is by shooting down Andross during the escape
>>
>>335151902
Honestly, after playing Splatoon it feels weird using sticks. It's not as if gyro is hard to learn though.
>>
>>335159306
Explain why he turns into a robot then
Andross is not a robot
There is a real final boss in the game
>>
>>335155017
Frankly, I never listen to people about controls, unless they can point out major objective demonstrable issues with them, and even then I'd rather play and judge for myself.

Usually all I hear is some empty shit like "it feels awkward" or "it feels slippery" or "it feels stiff".
People have trouble pinning anything down, instead complaining about feelings, and the issues they have are often self-created, or come from the "Why doesn't it control exactly like everything else? I'm too lazy to learn something different" mindset.

And then I play a lot of these games and have no issue whatsoever and find the controls suit the gameplay well.
>System Shock
>Kid Icarus Uprising

SNES Andross was a robot

When you're escaping and James flies in to distract Andross, you shoot the back of his head and get a mission accomplished and that's it. No secret boss. No hard route.

>>335159580
SNES Andross was a regular ape
He was inside the cube inside the metal face, the cube isa ship used for protection just like the mask

Even Star Fox 64 3D didn't force feed it's Gyro Controls. It was an option.

One I wish they kept for Zero.

I get that this isn't Star Fox 64, but options are nice to have, especially when you have a difficult time playing like this.

>>
How the fuck do you kill that Andross faggot? I shot at his face after killing his hands and he got stun or something like that, so I thought I had to go inside of his mouth or something, and I blew up.
>>
>>335155017
>are the difficulty of controls by mainstream reviewers have been extremely over-exaggerated?

It's weird why they're focusing on that one particular flaw, because it's giving all the shitposters ammo for disregarding reviews on the basis of "IT WORKS FOR ME GIT GUD".

Since modern journos have obviously never played Star Fox before, they're ignoring all the other reasons why Zero-Out-of-Ten is such a piece of shit, like the last-gen graphics, framerate drops, no multiplayer outside of the co-op shit, no good completion rewards, the uninspired VA and soundtrack, and the overall ho-hum plot.

>b-b-but it's longer than 64 was!
19 years and 3 console generations should result in a game that's SIGNIFICANTLY longer than the game it's rehashing. Zero's length also comes from a large amount of padding, like the stupid Gyro Wing segments.

If I had to pinpoint the main problem, it would be rhythm.
A lot of the levels often waste themselves in uninteresting "alternative" gameplays like Zoness or the All-Range Mode phases which are drastically a lot slower than the normal shooting gameplay, which is actually pretty decent (the new Fortuna is one of the highlight of the games). Instead of trying to incorporate said gimmicks into the main game or somewhat limiting them (64 had less of them and in the levels dedicated to it, the area would be a lot shorter to make sure the action was packed), they detract from it and end up being downright obnoxious.

The bosses are a perfect exemple of this, it's mindblowing how slow they are to fight. The best exemples would be the huge drone on the ice planet I forgot the name : you shoot the leg joints, go on the back, shoot the weak points, return, shoot the other leg joints, go on the back, shoot the weak points, return, shoot the leg joints, go on the back, shoot the core a bit, return etc It's simply not interesting to play. Even the carrier boss from Corneria in 64 rehashed in Sector Omega is a lot more tedious as you spend a huge chunk of the fight turning around waiting for the weak points to open. Same for Andross itself.

The replayability is also a lot less interesting than 64 which had actual alternative roads which would lead to other levels and another ending (Hard Route). Here, the "alternative roads" are just short roads that mostly leads to a mini-boss with a timer. They were sprta clever with the space base one where you have an entirely new road with Andrew being shocked that you're here, but the game doesn't do anything with it, and eventually you're still stuck with the normal shit-tier Venom at the end of the game. The replayability mainly comes from medals, but a lot of the levels just aren't very fun to play.

I unlocked every level and I got bored through the entirety of it. Not interested in 100% in the slightest.
>>
The gyro controls are kinda wonky, but the game tries its best to help you practice them.

You can clumsily make your way though the game, but if you want gold medals, all
collectibles, and efficient times, you best learn to use the gyro and 2nd screen efficiently.

Games pretty good.
I've been playing it this afternoon, and had a good blast.
I find the game pretty challenging. I've died quite a lot, especially on the bosses. There a bit to get used to regarding the controls. I find full motion a bit overwhelming, but setting gyro to aim only when shooting improves a lot.

I'm on Andross right now and he's pretty tough. You have to be fast shooting his hands, since his attacks come much quicker than before, and his grab does a ton of damage. Getting out of his blast and laser attack isn't too bad but constantly switching screens to dodge everything is quite tough. Satisfying when you pull it off though.
Can't wait to get the method to beat him down pat. Can't wait to unlock other levels and try out different paths. So far it's pretty much a solid, faithful sequel to 64.

I'd say in an afternoon I've improved to the point where I can handle Star wolf by myself without much of a sweat. So the complaint ts about the controls aren't as bad as they make out.

Also medals unlock training challenges.
>>
>>335155549

I dont know why they mapped barrel roll to tilting the right stick for the walker. Every time I try to turn I do a barrel roll. Seems pretty redundant to have that there in addition to the dodge which is done with the stick + ZL, especially since you can't turn one off.
>>335163446
Fuck the Gyrowing. Every mission that uses it is so damn boring, just flying around "hacking" panels. I don't know why Nintendo is so hesitant to just make Star Fox a full on rails shooter. Seems like they're always set on adding unnecessary bullshit that no one asked for.

Gyro doesn't add anything. It's not more precise, it's not more convenient, it's not more fun. Why is it in the game?

Regardless, analog controls in splatoon are shit only because nintendo has never made a FPS before and they have no acceleration, nor will let you adjust the x and y axis independently. they clearly made the game for gyro and then tacked on analog controls without having any idea how to make analog controls for an fps work.

This doesn't mean gyro is good, it just means it's better than their poor implementation of analog. No one picks gyro because it's fun, they pick it because it's necessary

No, it wouldn't.

If the chuck stick is mapped to up, down, strafe left, strafe right, which it would be, then your only option for turning is holding the pointer near the edges of the screen, which is awkward.

It's better in some respects because at least you can pinpoint aim at the things that are in front of you, but it has drawbacks.

Being more accurate does not mean "better". It merely means more accurate. It is also more awkward to play and thus less fun.

Gyro is a poor substitute for a mouse. If you really want to argue for precision, then you should be demanding Nintendo make a game that supports pointer devices, because gyro is a fucking joke next to them.

The gyro controls are not an issue, but the camera often is during all range mode because it assumes "oh lel they can just look at the controller" and switching between looking at either screen while also having to manage motion controls that can often un-centre themselves is an annoyance in some sections.

Rail shooter sections I honestly have no complaint about, and in fact one of my biggest issues is that it doesn't have enough and spends too much time on other stuff.

By saying it's better you're saying it's greater in every way, when really what you're saying is it's simply more accurate. You should really say what you mean.
>>
>>335166827
I think the problem is that they try too hard to aim constantly.
Once I focused on the flying and positioning more than the aiming, the game controlled better.
Definitely go with motion controls only when shooting, then all you need to do is shoot in the general direction and fine tune the aim, and for a particularly accurate shot quickly glance down and adjust.
You can totally do fly-by shootings this way. Especially when in all range mode.

It also doesn't help to hold the lock on button constantly. If anything it's better to do only to find out where something is relative to you or you are trying to dodge.
