Why is it that DS3 npcs are so devoid of character?
It's barely better than DS2.
It's really not that they're devoid of character, it's just that you're too dense to really understand any of it.

Honestly I do like the way they handled NPC's this time around as being more than assholes who stand in one place 24/7; siegward actually does shit which is awesome.
I just wish there was more to their questlines, usually it's a few sentences per step.

I can only assume that mouth animations would be far too time consuming for the very limited amount of dialog in the game...

How exactly were DS1 NPCs better than the ones we have now? It's like people are excepting huge backstories and plotlines with a lot of twists and turns when even Solaire, the guy everyone loves, was just some guy who liked the sun and then went mad (or not if you played with a guide).
DS3 is a lot better than DS2 where everyone was just kind of a dick and did nothing but stand around in Majula

I'm guessing they tried having the mouths move but it ended up looking silly or something so they decided not to
so they made it part of the lore everyone spoke through telepathy. until of course the opening of DS2 had the old firekeeper clearly opening her mouth so I don't know what the fuck anymore
