They remade 2033 using Last Light assets in the Last Light engine iteration which stripped out a whole bunch of fucking advanced atmospherics and lighting techniques available in the original so they could put it on consoles without there being an enormous disparity like there was between the original version on 360 versus pc. The literal only improvement is the model quality for characters. Everything else is the same or worse.

If you're fine with bugs, but you want to feel the very bleakness, hopelessness, sadness, depression, and claustrophobia that the novel portrats - then go with the original. Redux has a lighter atmosphere.

Portal 2, BioShock series, metroid prime series, Dead Space (though it's actually third person), Borderlands 2 (not a great story, but still worth it). And some of the Call of Duties have fantastic story modes, CoD 3 and Black Ops especially

FEAR is fantastic. It's very focused on combat, but the story is good too. The 'scary' sections are super deadpan though. It's really a GOAT game and you should play it right now.

Also, in case you use logitech peripherals, if it performs like shit for no reason there's an easy fix if you google it.

Also, Bioshock, I guess? The combat is crap, but the atmosphere is good. Plus, you'll get to experience maximal immersion since it's underwater.

Max Payne games are TPS, but they have great stories. Same with Mafia.
