$600 is the cut off where you start to see noticeable gains over consoles. $900 is the sweet spot where you max out most games at 1080p. After that it gets harder to notice the graphical and performance gains unless you're going 4K.
I know plenty of people who are happy with something like an i3 and a GTX 950 though, that will still outperform a PS4 for bargain bin prices.

(Buy $20 kb+m, hook PC up to tv, spend $380 on a comp, don't get an optical disk reader, put OS on an USB)
Plus you can use the PC for other things than games, such as schoolwork or watching movies or shut posting on 4chan.
And browser games are a plus. There's tons of free flash games that are more fun than some of the PS4 exclusives.

Are there games on a console you want? Get the console.
Are there games on PC you want? Willing to not have the PC MASTUARD RUCE levels? Get a cheap ass PC.
If you want the best appearance, fps, modding and all that jazz, save up another $500 or so and build a PC.
Or, as I said, get a console. Why is this such a hard thing? I game mostly on PC, so I have a good PC. I have all the handhelds. But I don't have a PS4 or Xbone. I have no need for them. PS4.5 would be the better option anyway.
