I have an 8gb card so I'm not worried but I believe I can avoid the patch in general just because of what I can do.

Oh, and I forgot to mention that the Hanzou and Crimson girls are pretty much irrelevant to the story in EV, so you won't actually get to learn much about Mirai if you're playing that as your first SK game. You'd need to play the 3DS games for that.
