why is no one talking about this?

i'm starting to believe that this generation simply doesn't like skill based games anymore. it's all rng this and progression system that these days
>>
This generation just wants to play games where you watch a bar slowly fill. It's why everything needs a leveling system these fays.
>>
>>335091693
As much as I hate fps games, cause all the ones on consoles are slow as fuck, I've never played quake, ut or any fast paced fps games.
>>
bump
UT is my favorite series.
>>
>>335091693
>why is no one talking about this?

Because it's barebones, some maps don't even have textures yet and the weapon design isn't that good either.

The shockrifle and it's effects are fucking horrible if compared to older UTs
>>
>>335091693
>You're looking for a skill-based game
>You decide to go with the one where armor is treated as a luxury item and unarmored players can be killed instantly by any number of lucky hits

Does not fucking compute.
>>
>>335091693
this will never be finished.
>>
>>335093296
god people who play games for graphics make me sick.
>>
>>335093296
Because its an alpha you dingus. Of course its gonna look unfinished.
>>
>tfw arena shooters are as dead as this thread
>>
>>335091693
I tried today

It auto set everything to high settings under epic and every game runs smoothly except every like 20 seconds I'm frozen for like 8 seconds. It was fucked up.
>>
Because kids are playing crappy "tactical" shooters like CSGO and Battlefield
>>
bio rifle needs a buff ASAP

what kind of community created weapon would you like to see?

i want a projectile based crossbow or bow&arrow

they basically copied team fortress 2's model. let's just hope they'll keep the maps free. i don't mind paid hats, i'll never buy one.

to be honest, i would rather pay 40 bucks for the game and be done with it. would keep away hackers and children, too
>>
>>335099775
Well traditionally the premier arena shooters were essentially advertisements for the engine and the genre is incredibly popular with more technically minded users. So it could just be that they're counting on the game making a big impression with developers who would then wind up using the engine.

I wouldn't put it past them to sell cosmetic stuff though.
>>
>>335099775
cosmetic shit, blueprints other asset store shit
it's basically a showcase for the engine which is what UT has always kinda been
>>
>>335091693
Its fun to play but all and all not enough people play it for me to basically play it.... on the west coast there is literately like 10 people ina fractured server of deathmatch and CTF its fucking boring. The rest are fucking dead with 1 or 2 people on them. The game needs fucking conquest to really get a population going.
>>
>>335098898
The Ripper
>>
>>335100241
i can't wait for vehicles.

what the game is lacking right now, apart from players, is advertisement. the devs should be more confident in their game and just advertise it some more, even if it's an early build. it's already pretty good. at least put it on steam or something
>>
>>335091693
I really wish you would spawn with a decent weapon. Can't count the amount of times i'v lost close matches because i essential spawned in the face of a guy with a rocket lawn chair with only the shitty bioweaon in sight that you have to fucking charge for it to be worth a shit. Thats if you even live long enough to walk the 10 feet to it.
>>
>>335100241
I think UT isn't going the vehicle route and i don't think most people want it honestly
it looks like toxikk is going to fill that niche though
>>
>>335100767

I havent played a ton, but I I really enjoyed the time I put into it. once i finish dark souls 3 probably ill hop back in.

Also, I found this way more fun than the doom4 betas.

It's almost like you have the right idea that most people don't want to jump in during alpha stages.
>>
>>335098103
whats the point of playing this otherwise? its a tech demo version of a game done multiple times before.
>>
>>335100961
That looks great but early access, never doing that again so maybe when it's on sale for 5 bucks or when it's released. UT ain't coming out for years don't hold your breath for it. In fact i expect them to just give up on it which they have already basically done.
>>
>>335101049
i don't know, for me being part of an alpha or beta is really exciting. you get to see how the game changes over time and you get to have fun with broken weapons. i really like that they decided to make the development so open this time around.

i can understand that people don't want to play a game that is full of gamebreaking bugs or some shit, but ut runs pretty great. i have yet to encounter any glitches ingame. the occasional crash when joining a server is annoying as all hell, but at least it doesn't happen during the game.

i wish more games would do this, but i guess unfinished games often get bad, undeserved reviews and ruin the reputation of the game before it's even out, so devs won't risk it.

That's mostly true.

I don't like the new UT though anon, they got rid of the double-jumping and something just feels amiss about it. I play it once in a awhile, but I still primarily play Quake Live.
>>
>>335101469
It doesn't use double jump but it uses wall jumping better than 2k4 ever did. You can really string some great shit together.
>>
>>335101469
>got rid of one of the worst changes in 2k3/2k4
Fuck's sake, kids, go play the best UT, UT99.
>>
>>335101469
i always got creamed in quake live lol it's much faster than ut in my experience.

i feel much more at home with ut, 2k4 got me into pc gaming and fps games in general. i grew up on consoles.
>>
>>335098660
They've been buffing it since day 1.
>>
This won't surprise you:
people intentionally play shitty games. All publicity is "good" publicity, it's why the Doom beta became more popular than it should have, because people hated it. Nothing seems to be newsworthy with UT.

Its the opposite for me. You do move a lot faster in Quake live, but the movement is predictable. The one-tap dodge in UT can have someone instantly change their direction and everyone spams it. UT2k3/UT2k4 got me into pc gaming as well, but I much prefer Quake now after trying Quake Live back in 2010.

It's good, but there's not much to talk about yet, since it's basically a better looking, unfinished UT 2004 with literally no content. It's getting there, though.
Hopefully they can get enough traction to foster a decent sized community by the time the game is released.
