I played 1 first and I honestly just think Dark Souls 2 had the better gameplay mechanics. Lore is negotiable and I remember most NPCs by default.

Dark Souls 1 and 2 were equally terrible and 3 is no better. Demon's Souls and BB are the only games that miyazaki made that weren't horrible, save for the fact that they're Sony exclusives
