Honestly its not the controls that bother me at all, the game just lacks compared to 64.
All those bosses and stages in 64 are pretty memorable, right? The obvious Independence Day reference on Katina (really, Fortuna), the flight through the asteroids that emulated some of Empire Strikes Back, the monster on Titania, the train on macbeth, the blockade run in Area 6. Zero has none of that.
Hell, the most memorable bosses besides Star Wolf, obviously, are those that were already featured in 64, like the assault carrier from the alt path of Corneria. And you run into Star Wolf way too much in this game, but not the whole squad, just one or two members. It cheapens the encounters.

The controls seem tricky to learn at first, but it won't take much time to learn them. Also being able to play it co-op with one person steering and one person aiming shots is a LOT of fun.

It's not super difficult, it's actually easier. It doubles damage received AND dealt. It makes boss fights short as FUCK, and makes the few difficult portions of the game into a cake walk.
It also doesn't change the enemy placement or numbers like the previous expert modes.
This is just embarrassing that people are defending this game like its failure is a direct insult at Wii U owners. I own a Wii U and it looks awful.

All the videos of the game are pretty much proof of everything except for how the controls feel (and no one's really saying the controls are bad, just that they're not intuitive and could've been done better)
