"Maining" in Overwatch is retarded as the game demands that you be able to rotate heroes to answer issues as they arise. Having a pool of 6 or so champs to rotate is acceptable but rigidly playing one character all of the time is stupid and detrimental to your team. The game encourages you to do otherwise.

Oh I've done that on plenty of occasions, but generally it was also what the team needed at the time as well. I don't insta-lock Genji and call it a day. Generally if I change hero mid-game it's because what I'm doing isn't working and I'm looking for other options.

Reinhardt is all about pushing the payload. You push the payload by standing in front of it with your shield while your team shoots through the shield.
The goal of Overwatch is to win the objective btw.
Reinhardt is all about teamwork, your allies can shoot through your shield, your enemies can't, that's why he's so good, because his shield is ridiculously strong.
If you're running around trying to pin or smack people you're playing the hero wrong. Your only use your charge after ulting in most cases. Like I said, 90% standing there with your shield. For damage and killing people, there are much much better choices than Reinhardt.

I haven't tried everyone, since I didn't realize a "weekend" is Friday and Saturday at Blizzard.
But probably Junkrat as offensive pressure, Bastion as offensive damage, Mercy as offensive Support, I hate Lucio, Symmetra as Defensive support, and Roadhog as Tank either side.Mei is a very close second for Offensive pressure/pusher.

If an enemy comes within your effective range, or one is attacking a team mate close to you, then you should knock them the fuck out. Yes, you can switch characters at any time in Overwatch, any time you die, you can hit H to bring up the Character list and change.
You can also do this in any spawn room your team owns.
It's an FPS with MOBA elements, in contrast to Battleborn which is a MOBA with FPS elements.

He's always viable I think. Highest midranged DPS in the game, bar none. Depending on the enemy composition, you can run him part of the core group to protect him from flankers, or if they haven't any, have him be a mild flanker on his own and get one or two kills before the enemy team can react.
His DPS is just so fucking huge that it's undeniable good in most situations.

Overwatch isn't more or less dumbed-down than TF2, its just got a different focus.
TF2 is more about being mechanically skilled, while Overwatch leans more towards mobas whereas skills more directly synergize/counter one another.
Like the "auto aim" ults you mentioned are in the game somely because they can be countered easily.
And killing a player actually does mean something, hence why Symmetra's teleporter is an ult. Run-back time is pretty high on some maps.
