So which one is it?

The sniper rifle, the GEP gun, or the crossbow?
>>
I'll "stick" with the prod.
>>
I can't go back to DX after HR. Just feels way too clunky.
>>
GEP gun, find a crossbow a few yards away, and theres a man with a sniper in an alley, bam, you got all three right off the bat
>>
I'll take the GEP gun for a silent takedown.
>>
>>335012802
This is how I do it as well. Wasn't the next GEP gun several hours of gameplay away?
>>
>>335012903
But you hardly get any ammo for the GEP gun in the first few levels.

The crossbow is worth it, just for the extra ammo it gives you.
>>
>>335014302
Crossbow feels almost useless, there's no way to get a good instant knockout and they have enough time to either trip an alarm, or draw attention of OTHER people who can trip alarms
>>
>>335012824
The GEP gun is the most silent way to eliminate Manderley

I really like Missing Link, but it should have been separated from the main story time-wise and not inserted in the middle of it. The series would have only gained if it took place between HR and MD. And there's not much that needs to be changed even, since Adam has no contact with the outside world for the whole mission

It's not what happens there that bothers people. It just interrupts the flow of story progression (which is pretty time sensitive) to deal with a completely unrelated plot
>>
I should really play Deus Ex one day.
>>
>>335024368

You know the final boss with the three women in the supercomputer?

Missing Link explains where that came from.

The Director's Cut version of Human Revolution wedges it in between leaving Hengsha and reaching the lab with the missing scientists, so it's really awkward.
>>
>>335012517
No regrets, my dear. As Ariadne told Theseus before he entered the Minotaur’s labyrinth: Always the GEP gun.. never sniper or crossbow.
>>
>>335024602
I thought it was great. That shit is how you do stealth boss fights.

honestly I didn't even know it was DLC until I started reading up about it post-game.
>>
>>335014942
gas grenate + tranq dart is an instant knockout. It's good for non-lethal, but it's not particularly god for being stealthy.
>>
>>335024602
>>335024746
I agree that ML was great by itself. Personally, I put it together with Minerva's Den as one of the best DLCs ever made. Length, story, new environments (not recycled assets), multiple paths, third option.

But I played it as a standalone long after my first HR playthough. It doesn't really work well with the pacing of the game in the Director's Cut.

Memes aside, always take the GEP, even if you're doing stealth. All the enemies on that level can be taken out with the baton, crossbow hits are almost never KO. It takes a longer to get the GEP if you don't get it here.
>>
>>335025515

I don't understand how that's not stealthy m8e.

Played through it for the first time a couple months ago, I did a non-lethal stealth playthrough on Realistic. I still took the GEP gun and it really helped with turrets and robots.

Good. Don't be a sissy and go for the rifle or crossbow, they're easily gotten in the game on many occasions.

He didn't need them. Elbow blades are possible because Jensen's arms are both totally mechanical, which is already an inferior technology to the nanites. JC never needs to replace his entire arm with a metal one because he has virtually all the benefits of one still in his natural arm.

Again it's the graphics. HR is probably one of the most immersive games to come out in recent history and an insane amount of detail was put into world-building. The earlier games were limited by the technology of that time and could never have hoped to match the immersion that HR could bring to the table.

If they remade all the earlier games with HR's engine, it'd be a much different story.

I just finished HR again for like the fourth time and I still can't love it. I really liked DE 2 because I thought some of the locations were neat, but I'm playing through DE 1 again and it just feels so much better than the others. More depth to the story by far, more interesting characters, more intense feel. The HR story is so weak and Alex is a boring character that is pretty cliche with his stupid haircut and wanna-be tough guy lines that just come across cringeworthy. JC was such a pimp and I'd always be looking forward to what he had to say because the script was so more better, I thought.

It can be argued that in HR it's before shit's break loose, the world is before war so it doesn't look that shitty (but still is shitty, look at detroit) but in DX there's war practically everywhere and resources are probably getting rare so that's why you have old regular boring hospital or bar in hells kitchen instead of neon and flashy Hive Clubs and LIMB clinics that probably require far more electricity and other resources to operate, things in DX are going 'retro' because it's more cost effective and you can argue with this even with augs since you no longer have shit like icarus landing system and depend more on your skills(>>335032803), the upside is you don't need constant repairs and tuneups like Hermann and most importantly, you pass as human so you're useful for other missions than genociding everything, the color theme also implies this, Black/Gold= Golden Age, Rich people, flashy cities but some corruption, Black/Blue= no money, blue mood, depression, black, even more corruption

And you don't seem to understand that graphical limitations prevent the original DX from having the same level of world-building detail and immersion, or what you call aesthetic.

You say things in HR look more hi-tech, more advanced, even though it's the prequel. And you're right, they DO look more hi-tech and advanced, because the technology to actually make things look that way in video games has evolved majorly since the original DX came out.

We're talking about a video game; the limits of the graphics are directly tied to the kind of aesthetic a game can have or how well the game can display a particular kind of aesthetic. Hang your fedora somewhere else.

>the same level of world-building detail and immersion, or what you call aesthetic.
I don't think graphical limitations were what kept cars in the original Deus Ex from looking futuristic, and there are plenty of games that came before Deus Ex that did just fine making a futuristic aesthetic without the advancements of today. I don't know if you ever played Super Metroid but that power suit looked pretty futuristic. I don't know if you ever played either of the System Shock games but shit looked pretty futuristic in those as well.
The original Deus Ex had an aesthetic that was closer to the real world by choice, not because they couldn't make it look futuristic.
>>
>>335035790
Tried to focus on combat. I'm not terribly far in the game, last time I played I killed what I think was the first boss, but it just seems to me like all the build options are much more in favor of sneaking around than in direct confrontation, which is often how I worked in the original.

All I'm saying is that when you compare HR to the original and start bringing in aesthetics, you are also necessarily discussing the graphical limitations and differences present when each game was created.

I firmly believe that if they did a HR-engine remaster of the originals, it'd look far more futuristic by comparison.

And all I'm saying is that having graphical limitations doesn't stop someone from achieving a futuristic aesthetic, and quite frankly it truly baffles me that you've chalked the entire thing up to graphics when there are thousands of games that pull off a much more futuristic look than Deus Ex with less advanced graphics. It was very clear that Deus Ex was meant to have an aesthetic that was similar to the real world but with some advanced technology here and there, which makes it silly that Human Revolution would have an aesthetic that belongs far past the original game.

Here's an image from Super Metroid. Inferior graphics, but you can clearly see that Samus' armor and starship are that of a civilization far ahead of ours in technology. Do you understand now?

Not even a little. They knew what they were doing.
However, I do wish I had skipped out on using Gunther's killphrase and just kicked his ass myself.

going back and playing it, it was a step down from the first DX, but it wasn't a bad game.

If the game let you continue with UNATCO, who would be the bosses instead of Anna, Gunther, and Walton?

Hmm... something's not quite right

I love that at least Anna is flammable. Lit her up and watched her scream.

Though the LAM kills seem to look just as satisfying

Why is violence against women this entertaining?

Does she even count as a woman anymore?
>>

I dunno but Paul would be the final boss.

Because she's an antagonist no matter what you do in the game?

>Navarre
No, the story paints her as a sadist with no regard for harm minimisation, or due course of justice/fair trial

>Hermann
Yeah, he seems like a man that once had pride in what he did and protecting his country; now trapped in a downward spiral of anxiety about becoming obsolete in a world where only his performance was his only appreciable asset. After you kill his only reason for hanging onto his increasingly irrelevant existance (his relationship with Anna) all that keeps him alive is his anger and need for vengeance. Genuinely felt sorry for the guy and wished there was a way to leave him alive.

I think the missions would be to assassinate Tracer Tong, and the Illuminati.

In Hong Kong, you'd probably have to at least fight against Gordon Quick and his boys before you can reach Tong.

I don't know how the names of Dowd and Everett will be found without Tong's assistance, but Page will probably find a way, and send you off to Paris. Toby Atanwe would definitely be a boss.

Paul Denton I assume would be a much later enemy, where you would have a brief conversation ("I thought you would have changed your mind by now JC. What a shame"). He would probably have the augmentations for Run speed, Cloak, Ballistic Protection, and Aggressive Defense System.

Either way, it would be a very different game.

If you read his emails and listen into his conversations, it's pretty evident that he's a complex guy that just wants to prove his worth to his superiors and to society; he has a lot of fears and insecurities and isn't necessarily cunning or intelligent like Anna. His problems are compounded by the fact that the powers that be are frustrated and annoyed by his constant requests to be upgraded makes everything worse for him. Anna, on the other hand, due to her cunning, intelligence and ability to manipulate her superiors gets a free reign to act out her sadistic tendencies without reproach. When she's given the order to kill you, she relishes the chance; whereas Gunther seems to have genuine regret and hesitance that's tipped over the edge by the pure hatred caused by your actions in killing Anna.
All the guy wanted was recognition for his hard work.

Also, another point to make is that his dedication to Anna is almost like that of a dog. Despite her coldness, she has a lot of the elements that he lacks; so he feels like she completes him by compensating for his failings.
When you kill Anna, you kill the last part of him that's keeping him from losing his battle with his failings and that's what drives him to mercilessly hunt you down after the fact.

It still doesn't make me feel any better about killing him, it'd be great if i could have killed him at the subway in battery park so that he wouldn't have to endure the death of Anna; but unfortunately the game doesn't allow it.

You don't have to kill him. You can just run away.

>Polymelia (from Greek πολυ- = "many" plus μέλος (plural μέλεα) = "limb") is a birth defect involving limbs (a type of dysmelia), in which the affected individual has more than the usual number of limbs. In humans and most land-dwelling animals, this means having five or more limbs. The extra limb is most commonly shrunken and/or deformed.

It's an exploit though and likely the same as running out the door at UNATCO instead of fighting Anna (the game still recognises that you killed her.)

I wouldn't really count it though, as there's no way to confirm that he's alive or not if you manage to sneak past him anyway.

did you give her dad the pistol or shoot Jojo yourself?

Protip: What heppens to her at the end depends on that one decision.

You can actually kill Jojo and ignore the conversation where Sandra leaves. Or you can ignore the entire event between the three. That way, the next time you're in New York (meeting Dowd), she will be sitting in the Underworld Tavern and will not be living with the homeless people later in the petrol station level.
>>
>>335044048
It's not en exploit really. With Anna you have to do something tricky IIRC, with Gunther you just run away, he can't keep up.
