I always felt that rainmaker is the worse-er version of Tower control.
At least with tower control you have the chance to make the game by taking control and winning or carrying until your team can catch up. Not to mention with how the tower works you have the chance of resetting the enemy's progress and try to make something outta from it before the time is up.
But oh man, rainmaker is just on the extreme spectrums of winning and losing. You can either get someone who knows how to make the runs or a team that will EFFECTIVELY cover you as you run. I have witnessed some great runners who scored touchdowns before anyone realizes where he came from and a team that have two snipers and a roller who made things real easy for the runner.
AND THEN, you have teams where some tard will take the rainmaker and then either gets killed near your team's goal or essentially hands it over to the enemy.

My brother is an ACE at Rainmaker, our friend at Tower Control and me at Splat Zones. I could definitely help cover the carrier, but none of my weapons facilitate that without getting out of my comfort zone. I primarily use the N-Zap, Dual Squelcher, Custom Blaster or Dynamo Roller. Sometimes the Hydra Splatling
