I like it, a lot.
I never beat it properly before just couple months ago. I sat down, learned how to use DosBox properly, and beat it all the way through. No cheats, no bullshit. It was a marvelous, refreshing experience.
Afterwards I downloaded that Dead Wish -mod, and played through it too. It was very nice as well.

I really wish Beth-fucks would've used BLOOD as their inspiration for the new Doom. The speed, action and overall style of this old game are so much better than what I've seen of the D4, which just reeks casual and CoD/Halo.

I love to read about Build engine games and especially Blood but I get incredibly dizzy while playing them. It's out of the question of ever playing from start to end. I gues it's related to small fov and perspective distortion though I never experience this with Wolfenstein or Doom games. Sad really. A Blood port could maybe have some visual fixes for me (like increased fov).

BloodXL isn't dead. Development has been restarted and seems to be going places.

because Doom is surrounded by tons of memes these days, which both the new generation of players and the devs behind D4 picked up first.

Blood and most of the BUILD engine games were literal "Doom clones", made using more advanced tech. With the themes and style of Blood, it would work as a great example of how a bit more modern Doom game would work. It even has one of the best, if not THE best shotgun in gaming history.

Anyway, you could look up the eDuke32 and SWP source-ports for Duke and SW3D. Those update the engine to look and work in "real" 3D, so there's no odd stretching involved.
If source-ports are not an option, like in Blood's case, you could try simply playing them the oldschool way: KB only. This would stick your camera to the single level, like in Wolf & Doom, with auto-aim and auto-slope camera helping with action quite a bit.

Try playing a bit further from the screen as well, in a lit room.

Nah screen size doesn't matter. I tried playing in small resolution for the fov to feel more "natural" and I get same dizziness. Even webms are fucking me up, though to a lower degree.

Yes that's what I meant, they should use the actual Doom game as inspiration instead of using Doom memes as inspiration.

Blood was, is, a really good game btw. I agree on that the weapons are fun. But I do think that it lacks the cleanness, the exact right amount of simplicity, that made Doom really great.

Why would anyone want it to be anything else than Doom with better graphics? Apart from making it fully 3D, it's literally the only way to improve on Doom.
Maybe better sound as well. And by that I mean 16-bit samples instead of 8-bit.

In fact I'd go s far as to say that if a game was made which was anything but 3D Doom with better graphics and sounds, I'd prefer if they called it something else than Doom 4.

Blood is a first-person shooter made at a time when "First-person shooter" was not the term used for that type of game. FPS games were just called "Doom clones" at the time because Doom was the standard for FPS.
