They stylized the children zombie to all look like the same green ayylmaos with no discernible features in order to make them look less "childlike". Which was not what the original concept was.
It makes sense though, since the game would not be released if it actually depicted childkilling, even if they are zombified.
Basically this game was doomed from the start.
