Do I really need to mess around with and install a billion mods before playing this?
>>
>>334945849
No, you only have to install NAM and do the shortcut parameter tweaks.
>>
>>334946081
Network Addon Mod?
>>
>>334946174
Yes, that one.
>>
>>334946081
What kinda parameter tweaks you talking about? Resolution and?
>>
>>334946380
-CustomResolution:enabled -rXXXXxYYYY -intro:off -EH:off -CPUCount:1
>>
>>334946546
Alright, then that's it. I just want a more vanilla experience, NAM sounds fine though if it improves basic stuff a bit
>>
>>334946648
Play it on the highest difficulty too. The lower ones inflate RCI artificially, meaning you're bound to end up with Detroit eventually.

Just do complete?
>>
>>334946958
Put in on the Traffic Simulator and Maxis Fixes only if you want the most vanilla experience.
>>
>>334947040
Oh ok, I'll do that then

you will never install sim city 4 for the first time again and play it
>>
>>334948498
I will since I never played it :)
>>
So I put NAM in the Steam Sim City 4 plugins folder?

I could never get into this game
It was so damn fucking complex.
;_;
I did LOVE the attention to detail though.
>>
>>334947085
Note, though, that all the other stuff doesn't really make the game less "vanilla", it just adds more stuff like light rail, roundabouts, and better highways. It gives you more options.
>>
>>334948846
Well this is my first city builder so I don't want too many options to overwhelm me
>>
>>334945849
Download the GOG version, install NAM and you are done.
>>
>>334949132
I have it on Steam, using that. Read to use the Plugins folder in Steam and not the My Documents one for install.
>>
>>334948887
SimCity 4 might be a little overwhelming regardless, then. It's been around for so long because it's the most complex, extensive city builder out there, but it didn't have nearly the popular success of earlier titles in the series because it's much less intuitive and beginner-friendly.

Give it a shot, though, and check out the Oldshoes guides to get started. Otherwise, check out Cities: Skylines, which is also pretty good and much easier to get into.
>>
>>334948887
You picked a bad game to start with, then. SC4 is one of the most complex, in-depth games in the genre. The pinnacle of it, if you ask me. Like, it's a fantastic game but it doesn't get much better unless you're looking for specific experiences like those found in Caesar/Pharaoh or Banished.
>>
>>334945849
Not really. Mods are great but even without them its the best city builder around.
>>
>>334949270
>>334949567
I was looking at cities, but I'm not sure I want to drop money on it right now when I've not tried the genre yet. I'll check out those guides.

Is it true about the highest difficulty bit?

I like the graphics of SC4 more than Cities too
>>
>>334949270
Skylines is too easy IMO. More like MS paint: city edition. The only challenge is traffic and even that isnt really hard.
>>
>>334949712
You just have to git gud.
The game doesnt forgive mistakes, especially in the early game.
>>
>>334945849

You really only need 2-3 mods to play that game. Most of the others just add new buildings/features you don't need.

But don't bother anyway. The game has such poor coding that it actually runs worse on dual/quad core processors. I'd suggest just getting Cities:Skylines and learn how to play that. Or go back and play Sim City 3000 Unlimited, which was more balanced.
>>
>>334949942
Yeah, it's certainly a tough genre to balance. On one hand, it's kinda boring being able to just paint whatever city you want on the map with no challenge whatsoever. On the other hand, it's pretty frustrating when you can't do ANYTHING you want to do because you're constantly scraping together cash to make even the tiniest improvements. Skylines could probably use some more customization where difficulty is concerned.
>>
>>334949712
>>334949270

ALso, are these oldshoes guides with just the Traffic Simulator and Maxis Fixes only?
>>
>>334950081
>it actually runs worse on dual/quad core processors

Holy fuck, yes, SC4 taxes my computer more than most games.
>>
>>334949186
>Steam version
>>
>>334950282
Doesn't matter, nothing in the guides would change with the NAM additions. Those guides just cover the basics, and like someone said earlier, NAM just gives you more options for advanced transportation networks. Advanced highway systems with the vanilla highways are a bitch.
>>
>>334950442

I was planning on getting it on Steam, what's wrong with it?
>>
>>334950235
Simcity 3000 did it well IMO.
>>
>>334950550
Oh, the guide just mentioned if you don't have NAM it may not be of help, but didn't mention what parts of NAM it uses
>>
>>334950949
The traffic explanations are for the NAM traffic simulation. Vanilla traffic simulation was all kinds of pants-on-head retarded. No one in their right mind would play with vanilla traffic.
>>
I see Cities Skylines on sale...not sure if the sale will end by the time I get paid.
>>
>>334951201
Its 10$ on G2A, so dont worry if you cant get it on sale.
>>
>>334951465
May as well just pirate if you're using G2A
>>
>>334951520
That works too.

Fuck you and your acid rain

>having trouble with disasters in SC3KU
About the only one that gives you trouble is the damn whirlpool since it always spawns next to seaports. Other than that, you should be swimming in so much money that a natural disaster doesn't do anything. or you can just turn disasters off.
>>
>>334953062
>Turning disasters off

But I would be a casual then.
>>
>>334950575
Nothing. It works fine.
