This is what we wanted for almost 2 decades! Don't let shitposting memesters ruin that for you. SF-0 hype thread?

Playing it right now actually it's pretty good so far.

I've been playing it for a few days. The gyro controls are actually pretty good once you git gud, and you only use the gamepad screen like 3 times.

Guard is also fucking awesome

I'm pretty hyped. I only ever played the SNES game and I liked it. All the gameplay footage looks fun and campy. Maybe $60 is too much for a arcade-style game that is more about replayability rather than the typical 10+ hour campaign modern games follow, but I'm still getting it day 1.

Fuck's sake. The point of a sequel isn't to do something retardedly different like Adventures, but it's also not to make the exact same thing again. You're supposed to expand on the original to create something better, not a copy.

So Assault/Command got the right idea? I thought Assault was okay, but it needed better on rails sections. Command can eat a dick though
>>
>Mandatory gimmick controls
>no multiplayer
>worse bosses
>shitty walker and gyrowing

No, it's not exactly like 64. That's the problem, Miyamoto thinks because the stages and plot are the same, it's what we wanted, I just wanted the same experience as 64. 100% ships and vehicles at fast paced speeds. Not this trash.

Goddammit Nintendo. It made me laugh.

hopefully it sells well enough for the series to continue. I'm looking forward to playing a new Star Fox after all this time

I heard mission select let's you play levels without having to start the game from the beginning. Thoughts?

Rumors say that Falco gets a solo mission with Katt but Slippy doesn't get shit. He's part of that shitty protect the mine mini game. Anyway, these little side missions are basically like those filler episodes in anime, they don't tie into the plot at all and there's no explanation why Fox is only with one of his wingman at the start.
>>
>>334942970
Actually looks good. Obvious probelems, but it actually looks fun.

too bad I only have 1 friend with a Wii U
>>
I've played it. Admittedly not very long. An hour maybe. But, considering I was fifteen minutes in a slow stealth helicopter solo mission with your perky robot buddy, I stopped giving a fuck. Now, I get that not every mission has to be Area 6, but basically, it has been so far:

"Hey, enjoyed Cornedia's run? Good, engage all range mode and call Falco a faggot (he's absolutely less edgy btw). Busted the boss' shield? Now go kill it with a walker section!" "Hey, some fun run through that blockade am I right? Now how about getting inside that big ship, and kill it in a walker section! The core's the same as last boss btw."
"Alright alright, now let's have fun. That all range mode stage (without map btw) is gonna be great, and there's gonna be pigma and all... Alright, done! These thirty targets sure were a handful. Now time to cutscene-transition into a walker section inside that station!
Haha, just kidding, the walker's just to get the gyrocopter. It's a slow-ass vehicle that can turn, and has a perky robot buddy! Couldn't fit any evasive manoeuver in the controls btw. Now go hack these invincible robots... Oh, and that awesome giant gorillabot taken in chains? Yeah, hack it. It'll kill ennemies for you so you don't have to do anything!"
"Great. Now, get to that teleporter, because you know, makes sense to have both safe teleporters and space travels. Alright, stealth mission! time!"

I just wanna fly a fucking arwing
>>
>>334944319
I don't know but that level looks fun.
>>
>land arwing gimmick shit
>second screen and gyro faggotry
>planet, boss, and story rehashing with far too few twists and mix-ups to really matter (To clarify, they should have done new planets or starships or whatever, anything to be less uninspired, and honestly, to use another anon's words, fuck doing a "zero mission" of the old games anyways. Keep the good gameplay of the old games, improve it a bit, and give new planets to explore and new better bosses to fight.)

I've got it preordered still. Looking forward to it on Friday, Splatoon really turned me onto gyro aiming, really hope at least the gyro in controllers continues into the next-gen and we get that as a standard option from here on.

>>

Instead we get "co-op" where one player flies and the other guns. And the pilot is stuck with a shitty single laser if they actually want to shoot. This is worse than fucking luma co-op in mario galaxy.

This. I'm not into Starfox at all so I won't be getting the game but it's fucking obvious everyone whining about gyro controls have never used them before. If they did, they'd know they work perfectly fine.
>>
>>334945626
No, because for some reason people understand that racing games take mastery and practice as you aim for the best times, or test your skill against other players.

I guess that last element is missing from Starfox Zero though, so if a reviewer fails to grasp the arcade aspect of Starfox games then it's a bit lost on them.
>>
>>334944319

Ancient memes. If it's just this one mission with Peppy then that's alright actually.

Did you know mouse+keyboard is also better for first person shooters, and allows greater, more reflexive controls too? And realistically, you can't do them upside down or laying down, or whatever, but you don't hear people complaining about that shit.

And no, gyro controls don't need calibration. That's motion controls, with pointing. Unless you're talking about adjusting sensitivity, a thing all control schemes of FPS generally have, including twin-sticks.
>>
>>334945272

On-ground missions were a godsend in that if only because they were so janky that you could get it done fast instead of having to suffer through it longer.
>>
>>334943674
Have you actually looked at any gameplay past Corneria? It's an entirely different game with entirely different levels and entirely different mechanics.

Shockingly, being in the same genre with a similar control scheme does not automatically make it a rehash, no matter what everyone else says.

I dunno, Mario 3D world is pretty surprising with how much content it has. The game feels like you've reached the last world about 3 times until you finally do.

Xenoblade was also pretty damn large and full of mechanics the game hardly tells you about, but that's diminished by weird pacing and a lackluster main story

You can want SF2, but still change parts of it. After all, there are no Pepper Medals, no missiles headed for Corneria, and I don't recall Hunters in SF2, either.

>>334950862
Then you'll be shocked when you see the full game. Even some of the bosses are the same.

>>334951563
That's all good and well, the problem is that they were forced on everyone instead of being an option, like SF643D Gyro was.
I damn sure would have at least tried it out if it were optional. Now? Nah, I'll just pass on the entire game, as will many people burned by Command.

I've played it for a couple of hours and so far I like it. The gyro control is surprisingly intuitive, but it is a bummer that it loses tracking and you have to reset it constantly.

The only thing I don't like so far is the gyropcopter stealth section. I think there's enough value to a rail shooter by it's mechanics alone and I don't feel like it needed these tacked on levels.
>>
>>334944331
I think Nintendo knew this will flop. The review scores sealed its fate too.

What if the level or enemy design is dependent on them? What if they want to make bosses that you fly under while shooting up at or enemies that block you from different angles and you have to remove them while you navigate corridors?

Making the controls optional removes any positive change they could have on the game's fundamental concepts.

Why not? Past games felt limited for me in the sense that you had to turn in the enemies direction to hit them. Considering how in on-rail sections you're already moving forward wouldn't it be a positive to e able to explore the stage without having enemy positioning forcefully guiding you away?

Like that other guy said, you can play it coop and use a regular controller, but it sorta is designed for the gamepad stuff. There are often cutscenes happening where you can look around with the gamepad and shoot stuff for bonuses.

I think it's essential to learn to control the game with the gyro stuff, if you wanna get something out of it.

Even if that was the case, why does it matter? If the game is good, then it shouldn't matter when the previous title came out. Same for a shitty game. I mean, Duke Nukem Forever is a sequel to, at the time, a 15 year old game, but that doesn't mean it gets its slack cut.
