If you can ignore some aspects of it the base gameplay is still fun as shit.
You'd be hard pressed to find a person who played it before the F2P update who didn't have 500+ hours played. TF2 was and still is in some ways that good. I miss the meet the team speculation threads, /v/ used to have some fucking great tf2 threads.

The only fun in this game is to play as the engineer and treat it as tower defense. Me and an engineer bro used to go into servers and stalemate them just to see if we could. If we had a pyro friend join us, we were close to unstoppable.
