So fucking hype
>>
Glad you're excited, hope you have a fun time.
>>

Does this game has multiplayer , if not exploring planets will get very fast boring.
>>
I haven't really followed any recent development of this game, but from what I've last seen, it's basically just an exploration game where immersing yourself is the entire point, no?

I mean does it even have a gameplay loop here? An objective? Combat? Crafting? Because if it's just another "you're supposed to appreciate the scenery" walking sim then fuck that.
>>
But the galaxies and planets are completely empty, right? This is like the dream game for people who defend the Mako in ME1

The gimmick is that the plants have "procederally generated" wildlife and alien NPCs you can talk to and trade with.

How that actually works has yet to be seen. But trust me it's going to be amazing so fucking hype you should buy it.

I wouldn't mind a better look at a planet's surface though.

I don't mind spreadsheets but it's silly that you have to design every component yourself and if you make a slight mistake in the configuration, your ship is basically useless

you spawn in random places on the edge of a galaxy sized galaxy. Assuming the game would help you navigate to the same planet (every indication is it wont have that functionality), it would still be very time consuming. Like potentially months of playtime, assuming you can spawn on completely opposite sides of the galaxy.
It might even be hard to find your friend when you were both on the same planet.

On top of this, in late interviews Sean seems to imply that even if you were in the same place you would not see each other. Basically it appears that every player is in their own instance of the system or whole game universe and that instance loads in certain changes from a universal server.

In one of the recent gameplay videos you can see the player going to sleep in front of a monolith with two NPC ships in the sky. When he wakes up time has passed, the planet has spun around, it is daytime, the sky has shifted, but those two NPC ships are in the exact same place as before he went to sleep. So the game world is not actually completely persistent.
>>
>>334911920
More like a sandbox editor.
Great for testing stuff like how to shoot missiles since you don't have to wait out the research and construction.

I don't know it's full capacities to be honest, but it's really helpful to fudge the numbers on start to get that nice pre-colonization stuff you were talking about instead of that automated set up.
>>
>>334910053
Nah you can't the game doesn't have coop. The online aspect is just people naming the planets, solar systems, flora and fauna.

If you get to a planet already visited you will probably see animals with DickMcTitties names.

At the game reveal he said the game would have multiplayer, but in the last months he has always avoided the question or saying some bullshit or changing the subject.

If the game had real multiplayer he would have been selling that like pancakes.

He was consistent for a long while until lately. In a recent interview when asked directly if you could see other players he dodged the question like three or four times straight while the interviewer kept insisting on getting an answer.
I think you wont be able to see other players, like I pointed out earlier in the thread the game world is not completely persistent so you would have very weird desync issues. You would not see the same ships in the sky, you would not see the same aliens running around, if one of you dug down to a cave it would still be just ground for the other person. If one of you went to sleep in front of a monolith to skip time 12 hours, how would that look to the other player?
>>
>>334911768
no
>>
>>334912093
He has always said the exact same thing

The system is identical to that of Journey or Dark Souls ghosts. You will very rarely run into people. In that short time the server allows both players to exist in an instance you could interact (limited to just shooting them or following them) but you cant maintain connection, they will just fade out.

The problem is people dont understand this simple ass system and think either 'NO ONLINE' or 'UNIVERSE TOO BIG FOR ONLINE'.

>>334912581

he's not said anything that contradicts it - he's just dodged it because if you lack at any comment thread on any article or video about the game that does concede you can see other players, they're full of shit like 'can't wait to buddy up with my friend and explore the galaxy together' and 'i hope i can build a house and have people come chill with me' and shit.

if people get the impression that it's got any sort of multiplayer support there'll be a huge backlash because it will be fucking. hard. for anyone to make a rendezvous reliably in this game. there isn't even a UI designation when you're right in front of another player.
>>

Again, I have seen every interview with him and I know what he said, and you are pulling info from your ass, he didn't compare it to Journey or Souls games. He said in the reveal and first interviews the game had multiplayer but it would be hard to meet other people.

In the last months he has ALWAYS avoided the question and he always go to "well there is interaction BECAUSE you see things named by other people".

He can teleport in the demos, he could have showed with another player but he has never done it. The game is singleplayer and that's it, the only online aspect is naming things.

There is more then one galaxy the developer revealed this in the IGN interview. The key to stopping the collison that will end all life in your own galaxy is getting to the centre of the OTHER galaxy and stopping an ancient alien artifact that's emitting deadly radiation/energy
>>
>>334912604
he literally never said that. he said things like "think of it more like a different kind of multiplayer experience, like journey". Thats pretty far from "identical to [...]". He also never said they are implementing shared instances. lately, when asked, he is just pointing out the fact that the chances of running into anyone are so low that it just probably wont happen. And thats of course correct, so why would they implement functionality for an almost impossible occurrence? Even if you were on the same planet, which is just insanely unlikely, the chances of running into each other are still diminishingly small

>>
>>334912915
Dont care what you think, you are wrong

http://gamerant.com/no-mans-sky-no-multiplayer/

>Murray describes the multiplayer of No Man’s Sky as having all of the online players “flying around with an open lobby,” but since the game world is so huge those players will almost never run into one another. The game is equipped to handle another player or two flying past, but there’s no need to make it capable of handling thousands or even dozens of players on screen at the same time.

>Rather than people actually playing together at the same time, No Man’s Sky‘s multiplayer elements will work in a similar way to those of Dark Souls

>“Just to be really clear… it is not an MMO. All of those questions are leading toward that. There are loads of MMOs out there. People can play those. We want people to be able to get a sense of playing with other people and to see other people and feel like this is a real, live universe.

>“If you want to play a first-person-shooter-sci-fi-run-around-on-a-planet game, play Destiny. It’s a really good game. Go play that. We’re not trying to do that.”
>>
>>334912983

you can start space wars
you can explore
you can discover
and so on. and playstation showed with anthony(or whatever) that you can go on a killing spree on a planet killing everything thats on there. and that was only a little bit of the game

Why do idiots like you always flock to /v/. Game development takes time and money, every feature costs time and money.

You cant just fucking add an infinite amount of content to every game. NMS is trying to do its own thing, whether it fails or works is irrelevant, the fact is they, and nor can any other company physically just add what you fucking want ad infinitude with no cost.

If you want a online space game you can play any number of them, there are a shitton of them made for just that.

okay okay. you need to calm down.

first of all, I don't think every game needs online. where did I even say that? I only said NMS needs online. The reason I want more content is that they ask 60 fucking dollars for the game that doesn't really keep me playing more than 5 hours. As far as I've seen, every aspect of the game seems to be extremely shallow or lacking community activity. Sure you can generate 110933034734832 different planets but since it's all from the same seed, they don't really seem to vary from another. Again, borderlands tried this with guns and the thing we only got was around 6-8 different gun types with different stats. That's it. I'm afraid the same will happen to NMS.
>>

in minecraft, the game world itself is randomly generated, there isn't that much to exlore since you can't find anything really new. The crafting from different blocks is what keeps you busy. NMS doesn't really have that much of a deep gameplay.

Yes you can go around shooting things with your friends, but you have to find them first

You start at a random point on the edge of the universe. You have to make your way towards the centre (sort of the main quest of the game) if you want to find other people

The objective is getting to the centre of the universe. You'll only be able to get a ship good enough to do this by playing the game.

You meet aliens like pic related within buildings on various planets (and I think on space stations too)

You trade stuff with them (the Korvax pictured here are a race that build ships - the ship that Sean has used in most demos is a Korvax ship)

As is shown in the pic you can learn their language directly from them ("Ask for help learning the alien's language"). Yes there are also stone obelisks on some planets from which you can learn an alien language, but they might be of different, ancient languages, I don't know.

for a space game they sure aren't implementing any space things. No pulsars, no gas giants, only habitable planets, nothing. Only copies of our solar system with rock habitable planets only

>>334918149
Not him, but everygame i've played in the last 5 years or so that bragged about having a big map has just ended up with a big empty shithole that detracts from everything. Now imagine if the whole games selling feature is "lol the games map is big!" and procedurally generated exists in tonnes of games, spelunky comes to mind, see another thing people don't get is that level design teams exist for a reason,it's a crucial part of games. Shit level design will ruin games and procedural generation/having a computer do it is inheriantly shit and has no CC or forethought.
Hence why big map and procedural generation already exist, and they are both shit so it's hardly revolutionary to double down or combine the two
