heavy bombers would be commanded by the air force, but dreadnoughts and frigates would be commanded by the navy. fighters would probably also be navy, since the air force doesn't have planes that launch other planes. with the exception of drones.

If the moon landing ended up as a disaster and everyone died they were to literally be treated as sailors lost at sea in terms of funeral and ceremony.

A Navy is closer to the idea though of being stationed on a vessel that won't see port for potentially long stretches. Kinda translates well to how a lot of space craft are treated in fiction.
Meanwhile, I figured that Air Forces would become more like Planetary Defense Forces instead. They'd be the type that would have a base or space station from which they'd deploy craft from.

Spaceships always make more sense in nautical terms especially heavy ships that require lots of crew and function essentially like submarines instead of being surrounded by water its vaccuum.
You air force fags have your little fighter wings and bombers on carriers and can treat those like air forces but it makes no sense for large fleet ships.
Too long, did not attempt to read the previous sentences written to outline and present my own opinion on the topic at hand, version: Spaceships and their operations are more similar to naval ships than air force planes. Especially future scifi ships and fleets.
Yea fleets not wings, wings are for tiny craf that take off from the spaceships or space carriers much like today.
