They need to fix the covenant. Currently there's no real incentive for summoning purple phantoms over other ones. Either make it so they can be summoned while the host doesn't have an ember or give bonus souls/embers/etc for using a purple phantom.

why would anyone ever summon a moundmaker? They are just white phantoms that can (and will) betray and kill you. Invading as a moundmaker is exactly the same as invading as a red except now the mobs will annoy you.
There should be some incentive and risk in summoning them, such as moundmakers having ember form health, or having a higher sl/weapon bracket. That way they are better than summoning a white, but also have a downside that they can try to fucking kill you.

you don't get attacked by enemies if you invade as mound maker, only if you use the white sign soapstone.
Also it's a lot easier to win as moundmaker compared to red phantoms because you can win by killing other phantoms OR the host, so you have more options

Basically it's the world vs. you. Everything can hurt you, your only goal is to kill either a phantom(any color) or the host. It's a wildcard covenant, you never know what the fuck is going to happen. Shit gets hilarious as you're fighting both for and against the host.
When using the soapstone the summon priority doesn't get fucked up, and you usually end up with hosts that aren't too rigid in their gameplay, so it tends to be more fun.
Usually you will spawn somewhere ahead of the host though, since you're purple the dungeon mobs are actually hostile toward you so be prepared when you spawn in.
Why not just make the summon sign look like a normal summon?
Lay on by the bonfire, people think they are summoning a normal person, bampf your purple ass shows up.
Also I've only seen 1 purple summon sign the whole time i've been playing.

The problem with red invasions is that priority is given to hosts with friendly phantoms. This means you will at the very least be down 2V1, WoB will auto summon a blue which typ puts you at 3V1. Since not many people are having fun playing as red, you rarely ever get another red bro to help you against the hordes.
When you play purple the host knows what they are getting into. Suddenly you're not paired up with Coop babbys who are offended you dared to invade them, and the whole online gets infinitely more enjoyable.

Being red wouldn't be so bad if the npc enemies somehow appropriately scaled with the number of phantoms. The problem is that the progression is very clearly tailored to one player. So when you have multiple players they litterally just clear-cut the world. Once you take away the fear of the world you have a 3 v 1, which you will almost always lose due to how easy it is to get stunlocked by that many enemy players.

Exactly. Noone can say reds can "use the mobs" because the mobs and the levels are not designed for coop play.
There's a reason many games have a split coop and singleplayer mode, because they need to have a different balance.

Blue Sentinels should be able to put down a blue summon sign that would allow a host to summon for regular coop and if a red phantom shows up blue can fuck his shit for the covenant, but if not its just a regular coop session. As it is right now Blue Sentinels is fucking dead.
side note: Anyone else disappointed with pic related? Its a shit sword that can't cast miracles despite having "cleric" in the name and it can't self buff itself. I was hoping it would make a good weapon for my spellsword but its just a clusterfuck (its ability is weak too, would have been ok if it was in bloodborne as there were a lot of dark places that needed light, but lighting in DaS3 is fucked).

Would like to see fewer covenants (maybe 4-5) and have each given its own phantom color. I think it would foster more pride and prejudice among the player base. Each covenant would have an area it calls its home base and would be auto summoned to defend it from invaders while also having unique objectives and traits for coop and invasion.
