It's a "i want this fight to last longer" mode for me.
Unless you're confident at the game, you really shouldn't be touching it.

Even if you like a game, you can criticize it for its faults you know.
Artificial difficulty is one thing that can be criticized. Tougher units and higher HP on hard mode can only be forgiven on RPGs and/or platformers. Not DMC.

DMC3 had a easy mode for people who sucked. It was literately rewarded to you if you suck too much at the early points in the game.

HP increase is just not hard mode.
Hard mode is when monsters fight back better.
