PS4K specs are out, pretty much confirmed too.

This thing is almost reaching GTX Titan with TLOPS/texture fill rate. So roughly ~10% weaker than GTX 970.

Granted, this does NOT mean native 4K games, but will most definetly will offer much better VR experience than regular PS4 and can play games upscaled form up to 4K.

What does /v/ think about this?

by what actual non forum based document? surely you have some major hardware provider reports to back ti up right?

I think it's a great move by Sony. VR gaming is the future, and the future is now.

not bad, but are there any games?

any 4K TV will already do this for you

Absolutely none.

If these specs are correct, which they appear to be (due to various sources all having the same data) then it is quite close.

Titan itself is already like 2 years old?

well considering they are all reporting on the same leak I'm not surprised
>>
If this is true and they're reaching nearly 970 levels of performance (FLOPs aren't the best indicator of real world performance but whatever) on an APU, that would indicate that the next generation of discrete GPU's is going to blow the current one out of the water.

>>334837848
Theres more that goes into GPU capability than clock speed, having supposedly double the numbers of stream processors and control units would be more significant in this case.

I'm going to sit this one out, I've had enough broken promises from consoles
>>
>>334838045

True - but sites like Engadget do not report rumours unless they're absolutely solid. At least so far.

We'll see during E3. I wouldn't be surprised if this console would cost more than regular PS4 does at the moment though.

Why would it not?
It's literally a better blu-ray player.

obviously to sell more 4K televisions, Sony 4K televisions to be more specific

>>
Should probably just wait for whatever Microsoft comes out with next [or hope the NX is great, which it probably won't be].

They are basically attached to this console [and its CPU] for the long haul unless they really are going to start pumping out a console every 3 years -- in which case, why would you bother staying on Sony?

I keep hearing about how a slow CPU is a bottleneck for vidya performance. How much of a FPS difference a slightly weak CPU makes when combined with a decent GPU, 5 or 50 fps?

If I were to stick a 980 on a system like pic related would I get a significant boost in vidya performance (like being able to run stuff on high/ultra at a stable framerate)?

>If I were to stick a 980 on a system like pic related would I get a significant boost in vidya performance (like being able to run stuff on high/ultra at a stable framerate)?
No.
You'd be horribly bottlenecked and games would run at an unstable 5-70 FPS on ultra.
>>
>>334840790
but... the CPU still make me think that isn't sufficient, the ps4 have a lot of problems with the CPU + GPU, I'm not sure how this is going to handle that.
>>
>>334840786
>If I were to stick a 980 on a system like pic related would I get a significant boost in vidya performance
nope, you'd have just wasted $500

hahhh waaaawww

It's an overclocked jaguar PoS netbook architecture, it's going to output 4k video (useful for netflix), that's about it famalam. stop posting.
>>334842113
it kind of is, it was released in 2013. A $300 r9 390 outperforms it nowaways

Starting in October, every PS4 game is required to ship with both a “Base Mode” which will run on the currently available PS4 and a “NEO Mode” for use on the new console.

Games running in NEO mode will be able to use the hardware upgrades (and an additional 512 MiB in the memory budget) to offer increased and more stable frame rate and higher visual fidelity, at least when those games run at 1080p on HDTVs.

Additionally, games released in the late September window will require a day one patch that updates them to NEO standards.

Games released previous to the NEO can take advantage of this hardware upgrade, but only if developers decide to patch their titles.

Sony have always released revised hardware, mainly to optimise production costs. They saw an opportunity to get better performance into the bargain at the same time. And also I suspect the Nintendo NX will be based on the same GPU and Sony couldn't let that shit stand.

XD LE NO GAEMS

This means PS4 owners HAVE to upgrade, hah they got jewed good!

>>
>>334843424
No, they wouldn't. The higher clocked CPU is on a new manufacturing process, they can clock it higher, draw less power, and generate less heat.
>>
>>334843702
so this is basically a custom Polaris APU?

Except 14nm GPU's with HBM2 are out in a few months & will blow this out the water

Also the CPU is still a bottleneck

Why don't console designers just follow Nintendo's example with the expansion pack on the N64? Seriously, selling a small add-on for like $50-70 would be far more appealing (ACTUALLY appealing, in this case) than an entire system that just divides the community further.
>>
>>334845214
>uncharted 4 demo bullshots running on a ps4
>jk it was a ps4k

can't wait for the ps4 version to look like ass and sonyggers defending it.
>>
>>334845661
The expansion pack for the N64 just upgraded the RAM, and it's all 8MB that takes over from the onboard RAM. Upgrading memory is simple, and consoles have 8 gigs, plenty to work with, an upgrade won't be necessary.

Upgrading a core component like the CPU or GPU is MUCH harder, esp. with how well integrated to the system they have to be.

Also console expansions never seem to pan out that well, see Sega for example.
>>
>>334846961

Ah, I see. I thought it would be more of a simple solution. Thanks for not giving a snarky response, anon.
>>
>>334840786
with some games it the difference between 20 and 60fps but usually the gpu bottleneck is more common and intel is pretty good at marketing so a lot of people(people who get shitty pre built) get i3 and higher when they would be perfectly fine with a pentium.
cpu bottlenecks
>minecraft
>dark souls 3
>planetside 2
gpu bottleneck
>almost every 3d game including many that are hard on the gpu.
