It's a decent turn based game, the major flaw in the first game being that the caravan management has very little to do with the combat and repetitive enemies. It's also quite short but the story does leave you hungering for more.

I really liked the first one (especially the god-tier soundtrack, holy shit) but I was really salty about the fact that the caravan management turned out to be 100% useless without any consequences.
So are there any gameplay tips other than 'keep everyone at 1 hp'?
I can't stop myself from trying to charge into the enemy for those extra items and renown and I keep getting wrecked.

I remember reading somewhere that it's going to be more important in this game.
I decided to replay the first one on hard yesterday. At the very end, right before you get reinforced with more troops, I had 0 fighters and 0 Varl with like 500 clansmen.
Started this game with 420 clansmen, 0 fighters, and 280 Varl.
Lost 80 clansmen in Boersgard and got the Varl from Hakon reinforcing me. My morale is shit though because in that game I was rushing to reach 120 days and stopped to rest like twice.

Even XCOM has multiple height levels.
Banner Saga is nowhere near FFT due to how boring and flat the battlefields are.
Both of them don't have FFT's turn structure, either. BS rotates between turns equally until pillage mode and XCOM is turn-by-team, whereas FFT is a much more robust speed-based system.

On the battles with "boss" enemies, do you get more renown for killing more dredge? Or is it the same amount as killing the boss and forcing them to leae?

I'm loving the game so far but I notice there's a shitload of party scrambling going on. Seems like every time shit happens I have to rethink my party layout.

Pretty sure they healed by travelling.
Resting just passes time so they're ready for any encounters where they might not be otherwise.
