It's actually not about anything but gravure games don't sell well in the west.

If Marie wasn't in DOAX 3, the game wouldn't exist.
She and Honoka revitalized interest in the series and DOAX3 was nothing more than an excuse to cash in on their popularity. Every other character was just fluff.
