I disagree. The Wehrmacht was working for the Nazis, unlike the Jews and such that wouldn't want to be identified as Nazi. They're inherently tied, and you can't dismiss it (the Wehrmacht being called Nazis) for the same reason that you don't call every German Nazi.

Take into account only a few Call of Duty games allowed feasible online multiplayer while WW2 was the theme. Maybe 3, and one was WaW, which had limited German interaction compared to the Pacific Theatre. Medal of Honor is a better example.
I'm not sure of any true single player story based games where you play as a Nazi. That would be borderline ideological, just as there are few games where you play as soviets that agreed with Stalin. It would anger certain populations.

Yes. It did start with German fighting, and it's multiplayer was at least semi-feasible until CoD 3 which was the last German focus CoD WW2 game and it was far more focused on the story. Though the single player stories were good, the multiplayer was just tacked on to increase marketing value, because there really wasn't anything interesting about them when compared to other multiplayer games like Counter Strike or Unreal Tournament. The modes weren't all that interesting and it was based on an already proven multiplayer engine used in Quake 3. Multiplayer was also only ever viable on PC, where consoles had jack shit for multiplayer until CoD 4.
