The mismanagement is real. Have you read Masters of Doom? It covered the rise of ID software. A lot of it is devoted to Romero's development of Daikatana. I'm getting the feel that this is a smaller scale Daikatana.

While Romero blew 20-30 million of Eidos' money, Inafune is only blowing 4 million. It might be more if he got extra funding from outside sources. That may be a real possibility if they ran out of kick starter money.
I will love to see the insider reports of this game's development in a few years.

This happened to Bioshock Infinite too. Every idea guy / creative director needs a decent producer or a product manager, otherwise the development will be fucking hell. Infinite only got finished because Levine finally hired a producer like half a year before the release.
Same would have happened with RDR if the Housers didn't bring in Leslie Benzies.
I think the money mismanagement was also the main mistake with MGSV

What, you thought he wanted to just run off with the money? That makes no sense. That ruins his reputation and selling a game nets you tens of millions in profits. He wanted to release a game, that sold well, and has tons of sequels.
And Inafune personally is probably taking only a small portion of the 4 million himself.
