Was anybody let down by the 3d graphics for DS? The graphics were butt ugly. The graphics weren't even on par with PS1 level. Metal Gear Soilder 1 looked better than most DS games.

Holy heck, I changed my mind.

I probably would had liked the DS to have been a more powerful in Polygon count. I wanted something along the like of Major's Mask for Nintendo 64. Even though the models look better for DS games, DS is lacking in polygon count.

That scene is probably pre-rendered.
Even if it's not ofc the cutscene models are gonna look way better.

Zelda's Majora's mask had a high polygon count than the DS. I don't think I've ever played a DS game with an overworld like Majora's mask. I felt the the DS was not powerful enough.

Days was particularly ugly. Poor example in my opinion.

This is fucking Twin Snakes you asshat

Those are the gameplay models, that's an in-engine scene. It's just upres'd in an emulator.
>>
>>334797138
I haven't played many DS games including this one but I refuse to believe those are the same models they use for combat.
There's no way the DS can handle the details of those along with 4 other characters on screen doing actions.
Pls prove me otherwise.

Ghost Trick looks great through some strange hackery.

You'd be surprised. A lot of DS games look even better. The main problem is the DS's native resolution.

For Days in particular, those are absolutely the gameplay models. The pre-rendered scenes are made using the PS2 models and compressed via the Mobiclip video codec.

5:53 pre-rendered cutscene
And 8:03 is an in-game cutscene leading directly into gameplay. The player is even gracious enough to give you a good look at Roxas's model.

Someone post that Metroid Prime Hunters screen with AA

Squeenix does amazing work with their models; they always look a generation ahead of their hardware.

Nope. DS placed somewhere in-between PS1 and N64 in terms of graphics. Titles like SM64 DS and Re1DS have higher polycount, better animations and higher-res textures than their originals.

Okay

in case you never played the machine, it did not support texture-filtering or AA, which N64 did. Tho' I guess those might've made details much harder to see on such tiny screen.

On the other hand, DS did have Z-buffering, sub-pixel accuracy for vertices, and perspective-correction, all which eliminated the typical polygon and texture waving effects PS1 era games had.

thus, it's safe to say that visuals-wise the DS was like a mix of PS1 and N64 level tech, which did impress me quite a bit.
