Don't blow money on frames, guns or rushing. If you do buy plat use it on Weapon and Frame slots.
The only thing you should spend money on is weapon and frame slots or orokin reactors if you can't get any. I haven't spent any money on the game and have almost 10k platinum and that's just from selling shit I find every few weeks.

Tonkor is a lvl5 weapon vastly superior to anything else.
Irradiating disarm is an augment for Loki's disarm skill, requires syndicate levels or plat.
Properly built Loki is permanently invisible.
Tryhards will shit on you for using either.

You get account levels (mastery) for leveling guns, frames etc. Start by buying everything available directly for credits.
Do you have friends to unlock planets for you? If not try asking recruitment chat.
First you need to unlock Ceres by beating boss of previous planet (don't remember which)
Next you need to unlock sector "Draco" there.
Once unlocked you can pub on draco forever sucking up the sweet coop exp. Nobody minds that, really, unless you like to jump into bullets and die all the time.
You don't need any previous planets or sectors until you feel strong and bored enough.

I'm surprised how good Warframe is actually, got back into it recently with a bunch of friends and have been enjoying it a lot so far. Buying plat is completely unnecessary as long as you're willing to grind prime parts in the void

Sometimes the urge to go back into this game is strong. The update that removed stamina and gave a double jump was phenomenal.
I immediately attached an upgrade to the double jump to blaze across levels. I felt like a fucking god.

Two runs of Draco, each to Round 4 of its game mode, should level everything in your load out to 30.
It's going to be boring, because grinding is boring. If you stick with it and get Tonkor, though, you will love the free damage.
You left before syndicates came in, so you probably only ever saw level 30 fights at most. Tonkor with good mods will clear maps past 100.

I had high level friends and also Loki from signing in once years ago, thus got to lvl7 in a week, just because level up exam has 24 hour cooldown.
Hardest (longest) pars was grinding and upgrading good mods and building formas.
There is nothing hard about warframe apart from occasional bad sorties, everything is just tedious mindless grind.

Ghost clans are hilariously cheap compared to those the size of Warbros, basically an extension of your Foundry.
There's some fun stuff and Frames still required by it, but nothing essential last I checked.
Actual story spoiler (if anybody cares):The Second Dream quest was so fucking stupid it really hurt my enjoyment of the game. I thought you played as cool cyborg ninjas like in its prequel, not as FAS children playing a game with puppets.
I would continue playing this game if it wasn't for the retarded amount of grind and waiting you'd have to do while crafting, not to mention the collossaly bad space children that was added a while ago.
