They're decent enough, but after the first one you'll start to notice a heavy trend of being more Visual Novel than actual investigation and interrogation. AA:PW is recommendable, but JFA is a bet meh and TT is a bit dragged down by trying to push Godot as being such a big deal and wrapping up loose ends. AA:AJ stands nicely due to the series recentering itself, and PLvAA is a decent enough mix of its two IPs despite handholding, but DD loses itself by taking the worst of PLvAA's handholding and not expanding a lot of the stuff AA:AJ set up. If you're looking to get into the series fresh on 3DS, DGS is great for TRANSLATION NEVER EVER. Otherwise, emulate the rerelease of Ace Attorney: Phoenix Wright for DS and you wouldn't suffer for missing the rest.

>being more Visual Novel than actual investigation and interrogation.
lmao nigga are you serious?
JFA and T&T have waaaay more fucking investigation and complex courtroom sections

>but muh 1-5
Made after the original trilogy.
>>
>>334791063
AA1 is barebones as fuck except for 1-5 and that was an extra case.
Every game afterwards had more meat in the gameplay.

Is there a "Am I Stupei?" image of this somewhere?
>>
>Investigations 2 is the only game in the series I ever got so bored with that I stopped playing
>have heard a lot of people say it's the best game in the series
Is it really good? Should I retry it?
>>
>>334792539
How could you get bored with Inv 2 but not with Inv 1?
>>
>>334787585
Wheelchair guy.
The case after that is the best of all time so it's worth going back and finishing.
>>
>>334792575
I don't know, I don't remember AAI ever really getting boring. But oh man, that second case in AAI2 was just so slow and took forever that I put the game down and never picked it back up again.
>>
>>334787409
Yes.
Play them in order of release.
Don't watch the anime and especially not the live action movie holy fuck.
Manga is really good but is not considered canon.
>>
>>334787409
Yeah, been playing the 3DS ports to refresh my memory and they're so much better than I remember.

The only thing JFA had for more complex investigations over AA1 was Psyche-Locks, but all conclusions you would make with Psyche-Locks were just those that you would normally make with the evidence you had. They had no real substantial worth with the number of locks having little significance to the strength of the character's secret. It was a superfluous system that was added to make up for the lack of depth in investigations and make it look like more of a game.

The problem is that for JFA overall is that you're mostly lead ahead by Franziska. At least in AA1, Miles would lay traps in cross-examination to make supposed contradictions work against you by using evidence either added to the court record or points made previously. Then whatever evidence he added to the record or witnesses he brought to the stand, you would be able to break into their secrets and use that information yourself.

With JFA's trials, a lot of the cases were straight shots if the evidence was added to the court record. This lead to a lot of situations where you would end up just Pressing until you gave up, and then suddenly an Objection would be made and then you'd finally get your evidence, leading to a quick and easy point for your path to a guilty verdict.

JFA heavily toned down what you got from thinking in favor of "gameplay." This continued on in the series with even Apollo's Perceive function just being a superfluous system to lead you along points you would already make. The reason why TT and AJ get infinite less shit than JFA is because despite these systems, they do better for making more interesting investigations.

AA1 might have been more barebones for actual systems, but it had better investigations and trials because they actually rely on your ability to talk to the witnesses and put evidence together.

And fuck the half-canon 1-5 case

I finished playing 1-5 the other night, I don't recall if I ever actually finished it when I played the first time a few years ago. It's the only case I've had to use a guide on and it's far too long.
>>
>>334793936
That's the real sting of Rise from the Ashes. It's actually a pretty damn good case, but it's about 7 trials of dubious placement in the canon with the use of Miles as the prosecutor and Ema appearing in Apollo Justice, and it does not translate too well to an emulator. A great case but its place in the series and replayability is a bad taste.
>>
>>334794483
I took issue with how much the case seemed to rely on me being in some way psychic. The original four cases do a great job of making you think while also nudging you in the right direction while Rise from the Ashes repeatedly throws situations at you that only make sense from the perspective of somebody that already knows the outcome.

I've played the first three games on my iPhone (i'm not a manchild, so no ds) and loved em all. How are they in comparison to dual destinies?
>>
>>334798247
My condolences for the iOS ports. DD is alright, not as good as the first three. You also need to play Apollo Justice first.
>>
>>334787585
you stopped on the worst case in the worst game

i bought the newest one buts basically just a playable book.
if you like reading everything with trial and error puzzles then go get it.
but theres not much gameplay
>>
Did they change the Cornered theme of JFA in the 3DS version? I only remember no one liking it when it came out but replaying it now I kinda prefer it over 1's.

YES.
Double the YES if you like old point&click adventure games.
>>
>>334802057
Only things changed are the art assets. In fact, some reviewers complained that they still used the GBA chiptunes rather than an orchestrated version of the OST.
>>
>>334802057
>>334802464
iOS and 3DS version both use the tracks from Gyakuten Saiban Soundbox which has the most high quality versions of the DS soundtracks. JFA and T&T benefit the most of it I think.
>>
>>334803068
I see, I thought that Turnabout Sisters in particular sounded a little different to how I remembered it.
