So /v/ im finally thinking of building a pc. Ive never done it before so i have no idea what I'm doing. This is the parts I'm thinking about. Opinions also please help
>>
OP here i forgot to mention my price range is around $800
>>
I'd recommend splashing out a little extra for a 970 and a DDR4 motherboard

why are you putting a micro atx motherboard in a full atx case?
>>
>>334785760
If you don't know what you're doing you might as well ask someone at NCIX (Canada) or some other computer store and ask for help. I'm gunna assume you have no idea how to assemble it either. Advice here blows dick.
>>
>>334786235
What kind should i get? Links if possible

My friend is helping me assemble and i know basic stuff like where everything goes from a computer class back in high school. The only things i dont know is what to put in it to get a decent high end one

pascals coming out sometime in june, the GPU you're planning on getting will either be obsolete or significantly cheaper in 1-2 months.

if you can't wait, whatever.
>>
>Amazon
Don't buy things at full retail price, OP (things "on sale" on Amazon aren't always on sale, a lot of the time they're marked up so they can make people think they're on sale). You could probably save a couple hundred bucks if you keep shopping around for a while and pick up things on sale . Depends on your patience/luck.

Motherboards and cases come in 3 sizes (largest to smallest): ATX, Micro ATX, and ITX. You have selected an ATX size case and as such should select an ATX size motherboard. Find any decently priced ATX mobo with the lga 1150 socket. Since you won't be overclocking (your cpu is locked) you don't need a high quality motherboard so just pick a cheap one with good feedback.

>>334786460
Those parts are fine, they should all work together. I would recommend a Western Digital Hard Drive over a Seagate, Western Digital seems to have a lower failure rate in their drives. I would also recommend a standard ATX motherboard instead of the micro, there is not reason to gimp yourself with the micro size in a standard size case.

Here is a standard size LGA1150 board with good reviews:
http://www.amazon.com/MSI-Intel-Z97-Motherboard-PC/dp/B00K23BW70/

Newegg has a pretty good series on building PCs, it's really easy to do. I'm a borderline retard and I can do it not problem
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VIF43-0mDk4

Also, don't forget to put in the motherboard spacers. Never forget the motherboard spacers.

Seagate HDDs suck ass. Get a WD Blue for the same price.
You probably don't need a DVD drive.
You don't need that much wattage on your PSU for a 960.

http://www.pcpartpicker.com

Will help you select parts and tell you if there are any compatibility issues amongst your hardware.

>>334786128
Nothing you'd ever notice if gaming is all you'll be doing. The advantage is that DDR4 mobos use the new LGA1151 socket for the new Skylake CPUs and are therefore more "future proof". Of course, Intel is run by dutiful practitioners of Judaism, so an even newer socket change probably isn't far off.

Something I'm honestly curious about...

Why do people seem to find building a computer like it's some sort of feat, or that it's difficult? Like damn... just follow the instructions that come with your motherboard.
>>
>>334788146
OP here. I dont find actually "building"it hard, i just dont know what to buy and whats good
>>
Here's a general tip: Put most of your budget into your graphics card. The other parts are somewhat negligible in comparison.
Your case, PSU and motherboard are more or less fine as long as they support the other parts.
An i5 CPU from 5 years ago still works perfect for 99% of vidya.
RAM, I'm not so sure about, 8GB is fine unless you like to have a bunch of shit running at once, but I don't know about the other shit. dual vs single channel (the number of sticks you have), the MHz, or the DDR# might all be sort of negligible for gaming.
Unless you have a CD collection you want to listen to / watch on your PC CD drive is optional these days, as a USB stick can serve the same purpose as a CD.
>>
>>334788458
Dont i need a CD drive to install an OS?
>>
>>334787925
Looks solid. Here's a good video on some tips to remember when building:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lHQGjGPK1Jw

When you get everything put together and windows installed, don't forget to install all your drivers. That is honestly the most important part that never gets mentioned to new builders. All your fancy parts won't get you anywhere if you forget to install all your Mobo / Video card drivers.
>>
>>334787925

>no ssd
>optical drive (meh)

get a decent ssd imo, and more ram if u can afford it, 16 gigs is kinda the new minimum now

get a decent mouse, keyboard is whatever, and a decent monitor and ur good
>>
>>334788641
Windows is honestly easiest to install from a CD, and for $18 there is no reason not to get a disk drive. I would keep it if I was you.
>>
>>334788650
I thought drivers usually auto install? Im sorry that im this dense
>>
>>334788458
>Put most of your budget into your graphics card. The other parts are somewhat negligible in comparison.

The exception to this is if you plan to stream (or do video editing) then you're going to need a good CPU.
>>
>>334785760
>Seagate

>>
>>334788742

>>
upgrade your 960, if you need to buy everything but the 960 first and save up the other $100 (computer works without gpu)

its a pretty good build otherwise

You'll regret getting a 960 when DaS3 doesnt run at 60

>Good

Meant i7, just something multi-threaded.

>>334788829
Then an i5/no threads is fine. However, I note that games like Paladins and Tom Clancy's The Division seem to give me more FPS as they use ALL of my threads on an i7. Not sure where PC gaming is going at the moment.
>>
>>334787925

NEVER get an i5.

>>
>>334788718
I have no idea about windows 10, but windows 7 definitely doesn't do that, at least for critical Video card / Motherboard Drivers. Just install all the drivers on the disk the motherboard comes with and then go to the internet and grab the latest Nvidia drivers for your video card. Don't freak out like I did when you get into windows for the very first time and thing is running at 800x600 resolution at 1FPS and the internet and audio don't work. Just install all the drivers and it should all start working.

>>
>>334785760
First off, use pcpartpicker to plan it out instead of just picking the parts on amazon, it'll compare prices and also tell you if your parts are compatible

if you're making a gaymen pc, go for a full atx mobo. I'd also recommend a modular PSU, the most frustrating part of my first build by far was cable management, spend a little more on a full modular one and you'll nip that problem right in the bud

I noticed you also don't have a monitor picked out, do you already have one at home?
>>
>>334788652

There aren't even any games to justify having 16gb

First to say tabs is a homo.
>>
>>334789281

don't get a 960, whatever you do wait until you can buy at least a 390x or a gtx 970.

also you don't need the optical drive, you can install from an usb stick. you just need access to another computer to copy the install media to usb.

don't listen to the SSD tards, just put the most money in the GPU

Nowadays you can mount images to flash drives the same exact way you burn a CD and use those to boot from and install an OS, or run a memory diagnostic, or whatever you'd usually need a CD for.
It's not really any easier to burn to and use a CD over a flash drive, like >>334788717 said, but for $18 it's not like you're breaking the bank
>>
>>334789441
what is your budget? there are excellent monitors in all price ranges (although it's hard to justify spending over $700 on a monitor, regardless of how nice they are)

>>
>>334789874

>>
>>334789951
Yes. You'll have to cut back in some other areas, you aren't going to get anything worth using for $80. You should spend at least twice that.

>Despite the 700 MHz difference in clock speed, Core i5 offers a better gaming experience compared to Core i3. So, it's not true that a highly clocked Core i3 will be a better gaming CPU than any Core i5. A quad-core CPU will always be better gaming option than a dual-core CPU with Hyper Threading.

Does anyone have any recommendations for a PCI wi-fi card in the range of $30-$40?
>>
>>334789951
sadly, yes, you'll have to about double that to get into the lowest price range but I'd recommend an Asus VS239H-P for best performance/price ratio at your budget.

>>334790364
this would also work, you might be able to find some old CRTs somebody's throwing out for free and could use them until you save up enough for a better screen.

>>334790185
i'm sure he meant one that's suited for gaming i.e. decent response time, no input lag, not some razer shit
>>
>>334789373
Everything that needs drivers will come with a disk. Usually it's just the motherboard and video card. The motherboard will come with a disk that has a bunch of drivers for different things, such as onboard Audio, Internet controllers, etc. Just pop the disk in and let it install everything. As for the video card, I recommend going to Nvidia's website and getting the latest video card drivers from there, their drivers included on the disk are usually a little out of date.

Also, make sure you have a copy of windows ready. If you don't have a legit copy, download a 64bit version of Windows 7 from the piratebay / kickass torrents and burn the ISO to a DVD using Daemon tools.

This looks like a good copy:
https://thepiratebay.se/torrent/9083389/Windows_7_ULTIMATE_SP1_ALL_EDITIONS_%2832_64_bit%29_%5Bmindcrasher%5D

When you boot your computer for the first time, make the DVD drive number 1 in the boot order, and the hard drive number 2. Put the disk in and Install windows like normal and when it's done take the disk out or else it will try to boot into the windows disk every time you restart your computer. After that just do any windows activation hack the torrent wants you to do and install your drivers and restart when it prompts you and you should be golden. This process is probably the same for windows 8 and 10 but I've never used those so I don't really know. Good luck.
