I can't be bothered buying a thing and my phone isn't good enough for Gear vr or whatever.
I hope that shit gets cheaper so I can watch tv or something on it.
>>
Its expensive and doesnt have enough (immediate) support/software yet.

Shitty games that don't even require a 970 because they look like PS2 games. Also VR is just a 3DTV strapped to your head and Wii mote wagglan. Tell me when we can actually plug ourselves into VR.
>>
>>334773640
>talking about gimmicks
Do you see people talking about the wii remote?
>>
>>334773640
I might buy that shit when waifu abuse sims pop up on dlsite right now the market is filled with normie trash
>>
>>334773640

I sure hope so. I really hope that these dense mother fuckers finally get it through their head that nobody is going to use this for anything but jerking off.
>>
The rapture happened bois.

The lucky few are the ones who got their order already. They have expand beyond the realm of mortal gaming
>>
>>334774235
You can already do this. You could do it for years. It's as real as reality but, at the same time, it's potentially unsafe and should only be done with someone you trust. It's also not possible to do it alone.
>>
remember all those games you buy or steam and adverts you see on facebook finances the first generation of vr
its here to stay and someday even the poor folk will be able to enjoy it
>>
Maybe because no one fucking has one since orders are backed up to August now. Fucking hell.

At least the Vive is charging people for the 2nd wave. Should get a lot more people using it soon.
>>
>>334776118
yeah, but some people should already have their headset and you don't see them talking about it, either. i suspect it's because all the games are shitty wii clones and unimpressive paid tech demos.

it's not the 'next big thing', it's a shitty gimmick like 3d tv's and the wiimote
>>
>>334775197
Calm down there, Morpheus
>>
>>334776340
Well I got mine shipped but I sold it on eBay for $2000 because fuck I can wait a month. I'm sure a bunch of people here did the same.

Also I don't even feel like talking about VR here because /v/ is filled with dumbshits that haven't even tried it and are just clueless about VR altogether.
>>
gimmicky as fuck, not worth $900+
it'll be worth it when the second generation comes out tho desu
>>
Way too expensive. Was thinking it'd be $600 at most.
>>
>>334776517
>/v/ is filled with dumbshits that haven't even tried it and are just clueless about VR altogether.
This. Every thread is a bunch of "lol wagglan controls" and "Why can't I play HL2 on this". Had my Vive for a while now but any real discussion on /v/ is pointless.
>>
It's expensive as hell and has all the latest in youtube bait and walking simulator experiences.

There's nothing to talk about until we get killer apps or a hardware revision. Unless a good porn game comes out obviously.
>>

>not waiting for gen 2 with eyetracking

lmao
>>
>>334776913
There's nothing graphically intensive enough to warrant it yet. Be thankful you have us early adopters so there will even be a 2nd gen.
>>
VR is just Kinect 2.0 for the moment and for the forseeable future. Unless somebody actually makes a game for it instead of a fucking tech demo it's dead in the water.
>>
>>334777239
There's full games. I guess you mean other than cockpit sims or 3rd person platformers? People are still working out how to develop so it's going to be a while.

By the end of the year when the shipping actually is moving smoothly and it hits amazon, then you will see a lot more threads.
>>
>>334776913
Eyetracking is dumb for this gen anyways. The low FoV + Fresnel lens means that you look straight ahead most of the time. It'd make sense if the display went all the way to your peripherals, but the hardware isn't there yet.

About what? "Pick up physics objects simulator #834"? "Stand and shoot floating orbs #709"?
>>
>>334777656

Cool demos flim-flam.
>>
>people are saying it doesn't work properly for racing/flight/FPS games because motion sickness

It's good as dead. Paying $800 to play glorified tech demos that still look way below Wii tier shovelware.
>>
There's really no good VR games, it's almost exclusively tech demo bullshit.
The closest thing to a "game" is a fucking sandbox thing where you make your own game.
I do give honorable mention to Job Simulator for being a really cute meta idea of a simulation inside a simulation, but it falls flat with 0 replayability.

Budget Cuts, Space Pirate Trainer, and Hover Junkers are good games with replay value.
>>
>>334777913
how are you supposed to fap with two controllers in your hands?
>>
>>334778053
>Budget Cuts
Doesn't that game have a linear story with semi-linear level design and one big "level?"
The way it plays is really interesting, I'll give it that.
>Space Pirate Trainer
>Stand in place and shoot stuff
Not the worst, but still. Just *riveting.*
>Hover Junkers
Now this is actually interesting and an "on the right track" VR game.

Yeah they didn't think that through. They better support Leap Motion like the MMD demos.
>>
>>334773640
No one owns any of these headsets since they're expensive as shit. They forced it as gimmick themselves really. Everyone will forget these even existed when the prices finally drop in 5-10 years.
>>
You could easily make a great RTS/RTT/TBS/SRPG game with current VR. I guess they're mostly dead genres though.

God sims too.

Side scrollers set up to look like a diorama would be neat.
>>
>>334778176
You're supposed to hire a hooker.
>>
>>334778541
What's the point of playing a RTS game with VR?
>>
>>334773943
Not worth it. Got a note 5 with a 2k screen and you can see the grid in between the pixels. It's kinda neat and would work if it was maybe 4k and ran at 60fps at least.
>>
>>334778646
What's the point of playing anything in VR?
>>
>>334778783
first person perspective games for muh immersion
>>
>>334774235
dude, I had the closest thing to Inception quality VR and I've been trying to replicate it.

Basically, I entered sleep paralysis on my Lazy Boy recliner that was 2 feet from a 70 inch HDTV that was playing Seven Samurai. My eyes where open, I was seeing the movie, but I was asleep and processing everything as a dream and it was like being in the movie, I felt everything like it was real.

now, if there was someway to reliabily enter sleep paralysis, and have someway to get "input" from a sleeping person so they could control a game, your brain would be tricked into providing all the necessary senses for it to feel real.
>>
>>334773640
I'll buy one as soon as they have Nintendo Power Glove support.
>>
>>334777239
Honestly, if I had the money, I'd buy an HMD just to play Alien: Isolation on it, even if it's not fully supported.

I also really want to play some S.T.A.L.K.E.R. with it.
>>
>>334778646
It'd be cool if done right.
Focus on a point with your mouse and you'd be able to quickly glance to your right at a battle then focus back at your base to continue building.

Though if every RTS had been like Supreme Commander this would never be an issue.
>>
>>334773640
Who'd even consider acquiring a hat for their eyes.
>>
>>334778865
But that shit won't happen from the looks of it, developers won't add support for old games, I guess maybe modders can help.

But from what I heard, FPS games on VR makes your head hurt, which to me sounds like a big fucking drawback. Who the hell is going to play nearly a thousand bucks just to play shitty VR archery tech demos and Valve's ball throwing simulator
>>
>>334773640
i never buy gimmick shit like this, unless its from nintendo, because unlike other companies, nintendo support their shit even if its a bad idea, unless they fuck up really big time like the virtual boy.

sony abandoned the vita and left it to die.
xbox did the same with kinect, but still forced you to buy it even if it was not going to be used, until they realized how retard was that strategy.
>>
>>334779147
FPS doesn't make your head hurt. It's moving with a thumbstick. Your body senses a disconecct moving when you really aren't.

Alien Isolation isn't so bad since it's so slowly paced. I played a bit of it with my DK2. Worked decently well for kinda hacked in support.

Faster games like Half Life 2 gave me a headache after 5 mins.
>>
>>334779147
As far as I know, you can play S.T.A.L.K.E.R. with an HMD by using a third party application. It's far from perfect and basically, you shoot were you're looking at, but I'd play it just to feel like I'm standing in those ruins. But, yeah, unless modders give it a try, we'll never get S.T.A.L.K.E.R. with proper vr support.

On the other had, the mod scene for S.T.A.L.K.E.R. is really well developed...
>>
>>334778848
Games don't need to be first person for VR to be fun or useful.

Imagine you're playing an RTS but instead of a tiny section of map on a screen you're basically floating above a 3D representation of the entire map. Like playing a tabletop wargame where everything is actually in motion and you can zoom down to the individual unit level if you want or oversea the entire battlefield directing units.
>>
>>334773640
I called this shit like 2 years ago. knew it was going to be a gimmicky piece of trash that got overhyped like 3DTVs and motion control.
>>
>>334779410
I'd like to see a city builder in VR. You could have the tabletop view and then the pedestrian view just looking around the city.

Really, I think VR makes sense for a lot of 3rd person games. If done properly, it eliminates bad cameras in 3rd person games. You have full 1 to 1 control over the camera at all times. So that frees up a stick on a controller
>>
I dunno. Probably because the media and this forum are rented and controlled by marketing departments and they are waiting until there is enough stock on store shelves to justify a controlled chatter.
