Battleships are usable, as opposed to previous games where they're garbage. CO powers were a lot more important since a good player could pick off the enemy CO and deny them their power (without being locked into shitty Sasha).

AI is a cheating bastard in Fog of War maps. Was that ever fixed?
Also, the heavier tanks in later games just became silly. I remember when I played Advance Wars, Mid Tanks were really good but beatable, either by small tanks or the commandos or ranged strikers ganging up on them. By later games, they had those round SuperHeavy Tanks which took zero damage from anything that wasn't a Bomber, a Heavy Tank, or another SuperHeavy.

This is what I ended up doing on a lot of maps. Just build a shitton of mech infantry and sent them out everywhere. It's next to impossible to blow through them all, and their rocket launchers will take out those tanks after long enough.
Only trouble are dealing with planes.

Why isn't this series, or at least the genre, flourishing on mobile?
Turn based so you can take your time fumbling with shitty touch controls, simple sprite based graphics so even shitty smart phones can keep up, all the while the gameplay is still deep and enjoyable.
And best yet, you can just drop it in a second so when you're done waiting in line you won't be stuck in the middle of something.
Or am I blind and haven't seen any of these games and they are actually dominating the market?

But i did anon. I played advance wars at a friends house and i knew i had to get it as my first game on the system. Played the absolute fuck out of 1 and 2. Didn't play dual strike, beat days of ruin but it was average compared to previous games.

Get some planes.
If aerial units aren't an option, then build up enough fast or small units to flood the enemy. Lots and lots and lots of jeeps, or dozens of infantry to just swarm over mountain ranges. Unless it is to the point where entire sections of land are taken up by rockets, you should still be able to push through.

Most good video game developers aren't focusing on mobile.
Nintendo might, ironically, be one of the few who could do it well. Mario vs Donkey Kong, Advance Wars, Fire Emblem, and a few other titles could work just fine with just touchscreen controls, but N is currently on their own systems. Everyone else is focused on console games or Steam, and not interested in making touchscreen-only games. Everyone working on just mobile games tend to be shit developers in comparison, and aren't that concerned about quality.
Also, how many other developers do you know about who are making similar games to Advance Wars?

It's an island map,we both own half of it and can't get any ground on the middle island and the ocean is just one big disaster area and the odds of a lander getting through is slim to none right now. Never mind what they unload actually getting anything done.
All that said though, it's been fun going back to it occasionally.
