What do you guys think about Pontiff? How many tries did it take you all to kill him? A friend is arguing with me about whether he was easy or hard and I'd love to hear your feedback

It's kind of both. His style is aggressive, but the patterns are simple, and he telegraphs everything just long enough for a reaction once you've learned his moveset.
I got my shit pushed in a few times, but when I did beat him, I only got hit twice.

He's pretty fun. I'd hate to face him with a shield though. Pretty much mandatory fast roll situation.
Pontiff is fine. Learn his combos and attacks, and when to time your rolls instead of panic rolling. He can also be parried

First time i fought him it took me like a million tries, that said i later found out that the weapon i was using to fight him(farron greatsword) was absolute shit.
So in ng+ i fought him with an ultragreatsword and killed him first try.

Difficulty is subjective, there are too many factors involved, including but not limited to build, playstyle, weapons and past souls experiences
I beat him in 3-4 tries or so, it's a fun fight

Took me about 16 tries iirc. Just took me awhile to get the parry timing because I'm bad. He's pretty aggressive until he gets his ghost, after which you can actually buy enough time to cast miracles.

I got fucked up HARD many times. In comparison most other bosses in the game were relatively easy for me. Probably has something to do with me not using a shield.
I eventually parried him through his first phase and then went full panic to kill the shade when it showed up. Fuck I hate the lmao2boss meme when they can clip through each other. Pontiff being able to give his shade visible cover was infuriating.

Nothing is hard in a Souls game the first week because of the sheer amount of summon signs that are available to the babies.
My roommate is convinced he's some kind of Souls game master. He's gone through just about every zone with a phantom, and every time he's invaded he already has two phantoms ready to gank. When he gets invaded while trying to progress then he just force-quits the game like a pussy. Essentially like a faggot CS player pulling their Ethernet when they're losing. Then he gets into the Catacombs and thinks he's a hard ass, starts asking me to come look at his TV to see him kill a red phantom. Only I see him just gank-squading with two other people at the bonfire, so every fight is 1v3. He's basically playing Souls on training wheels.
Now he's spent all night gloating about how much he likes the PvP, yet the only thing he's done PvP-wise is gank reds in Catacombs who don't have a fighting chance.
Basically he's that Host who ALWAYS forces you to wait for a third phantom because he's so unsure of his skills that he needs TWO crutches instead of one.

He's literally an easier Dancer. Dancer I struggled with, took me about 5 tries before I killed her. Pontiff was far easier, provided you have a weapon that actually does damage Pontiff provides you with clearly telegraphed openings, and that shit when he summons his phantom not only let me get the phantom down to a fragment of its original hp, but also rek the pontiff himself for a good quarter of his hp.
Honestly the people who complain about Pontiff must have never made it to Dancer, because I feel like Dancer is Pontiff on steroids.

Dancer basically has a permanent safe zone right next to her ass. A lovely safe zone. Pontiff doesn't, and his ass is pathetic. You can also LOS Dancer behind pillars if you really need time to get health back or rebuff or whatever. She's easier than he is for sure.

Gundyr is the most overrated boss out of the "fast humanoid" bosses. All his moves are slow as fuck except for the shoulder and kick, both of which will never hit you unless you get greedy.

Dancer had these weird slow wind ups that caught me every single time

Beat him two days ago with 10 Vigor and no shield.
Took a lot of tries to get his basic move-set down.

At first it felt impossible, but I actually think it gets easier. His slow/jumping attacks are easy to avoid and gives a few seconds for free hits. Only his fast stab attack combos is the one that killed me the most.

The kicks and the delayed swings to bait you into rolling to early were great
The only move of his that gave me trouble was his rapid halberd charge into the large arc swing. I would just panic roll to the right and pray the wide swing didn't hit me.

imo the hardest part of the game, is not using the longsword.

I died at least 15 times but i used a ultra greatsword. No shield. I have 12 estus but only used 4 for the fight i beat him in. The ring i used was life ring. The ring that increases dodge invincibility but lowers defense. stamina ring and atk dmg increase at full health it was very helpful and was a fun fight. Once you learn his attack patterns and i figured out i can kill his clone in 3 hits. Stomp was so damn useful against the double fuck.

He was hard for me, I used a light shield and dodge throughout the playthough up to that point.
What really fucked me up was his combos, and 'punishes'. Other bosses didn't really have as much of that. He's probably my favorite as he forces you to recognize all the tells he makes.

The problem I had with him and it wasn't really with him, it was something that I realized at that point was ability queuing, it through me off and made me learn to not just panic roll by time the roll's perfectly.
