Can someone please explain the appeal of "procedural generation"
like I can see why it'd seem cool the first time but surely after like, two games, the average customer would realize what a waste it is
>fun
>rogue"""like"""
I'm going to shoot the next privileged shitlord who misgenres a game like that.

As a concept, it is cool that you will never run out of space and the map is virtually unlimited. However it is just a patchwork of premade sections stitched together and if the player realizes this then the experience is poor.
>>334768312
Because people hear the word unlimited or infinite and their hopes get raised. They go into the game and the first dungeon seems so cool because it's random! Then the second dungeon has one or two surprises. The third might, but probably not. They they see changes and nuances that aren't really there to make themselves believe their hype is justified.
But the system works. If they came out with a procedurally generated Starfox 64, I would play the shit out of it.

yeah see, I understand getting fooled once. but not buying into it again and again.

This.
Procedural works great, but only if the game's designed around it. Shit that hinges on uncertainty like roguelikes are a perfect fit.
>it's a level where you have to hop between islands in a sea of poison/lava

why do people like the pokemon dungeon games?
>roguelike elements
>zombie survival
Why are zombies either way too over powered or non threatening in these games? The closest I ever came to having fun in one of these games was that shitty Unturned game. Oh and I guess Project Zomboid.
>platformer
>controls are loose and platforming is unforgiving to make it seem harder
>>334774097
Because none of them have been RE4 except for RE4, and I'm not even sure that really counts as survival.
>dungeon is a hallway with a number of split off dead ends
>procedurally generated world
>"You can do anything!"
>Z.H.P. Unlosing Ranger VS Darkdeath Evilman
After the first dungeon every single one had some gimmick and they got worse and worse and worse.
It was the most infuriating procedurally generated dungeon ever
The last dungeon actually just had the exit move around like a mod enemy and you had to chase it

The idea is poor: slow shuffling monster who mindlessly attacks and is kinda strong. The only way you could keep it exciting would be to have them evolve.
