I've never actually played Melty Blood before, so I'm excited to finally get my hands on it.
I hear the game is pretty bizarre though, like you have to block attacks to activate your supers or something?

That's for one specific kind of move called a "Last Arc" that you can only use while you're in blood heat after shielding an enemy's attack as soon as it's about to hit you. It's rare to actually get one of these in a real match. You can enter blood heat while you're at max meter by pressing A+B+C.

Jesus, that sounds tough. Do a lot of matches end up with people running away or just using projectiles to avoid triggering Last Arcs then?
It must be incredible every time someone pulls it off though, even if it's not an instant kill it'll probably mix things up a lot.

Usually you only get Last Arc'd if the other guy is seriously styling on you and wants to fuck with your head. Some LA's are dodgeable even (e.g. Nanaya)

Seriously, unless your opponent is a master of mix-up, landing the Last Arc is almost guaranteed if your opponent keeps doing the same thing over and over and over, like pretty much 90% of /v/

Shielding isn't IB from GG, if that's what you mean by perfect guard. It's more like 3S' parry system since it leaves you vulnerable if you don't shield anything. Ex guarding is basically IB from GG but not as strong.
People typically never enter blood heat in the first place. It's usually a waste of meter since you end up with zero meter once it ends.

Last Arcs are just stylish supers, they deal alot of damage, not the full bar
Besides, GG1 destroyers are the only definitive destroyers
