It's funny, I remember this being by far the most popular opinion when the game was originally released. The game got torn right apart for its lazy dungeon design, load screens (I mean sailing), and it's lackluster story. /v/ used to absolutelly hate the game.

Nigga, all the different powers/gameplay mechanics from the masks were fun as fuck.
The story/atmosphere was just the icing on the cake. Once you figured out how to do stuff in a cycle and plan dungeouns/sidequests accordingly, the game is fucking great. I love that the masks you get let you fuck around and stuff too, experimenting with each one was pretty fun. Basically took the time travel stuff from OoT, made it meaningful with reacting world/ability to abuse the time travel (win lottery, chests reset, etc.), and added masks ontop of the base OoT gameplay to add new mechanics and features to it.But yeah, the people who like Majora's Mask for the ben drowned/meme status shit are absolute cancer

Because every game up until Twilight Princess didn't have tutorials that lasted beyond an hour and give us a bunch of arbitrary shit before the game proper started. In OoT you can be in your first dungeon in around five minutes; Majora's Mask starts up as soon as the first cutscene is over with the only tutorial being how to use Tatl, Wind Waker gets going between 20-30 minutes at least and can easily be less than that.

Yeah, no. Wind Waker is decent, at best. Its greatest strengths are its charming visuals, ear worm sailing song, and the oodles of potential it had, especially with regards to its characters, although sadly squandered. There were traces of a good game there, that might also have had a good story, but it failed to properly capitalize on either. It's a real shame. Wind Waker felt almost too experimental, and a lot of the experiments simply didn't pay off.Discounting the control scheme, hardware limitations, and subjective waste of the parent game's potential-in-setting, I legitimately believe Phantom Hourglass was a better game on several levels than Wind Waker was. I kind of wish they'd do a Wii U or NX remake with some tweaked controls, improved visuals, and expanded soundtrack.
In comparison, TP is a good game, albeit not without its fair share of flaws also, such as the plot meandering at times and occasionally feeling like it doesn't have a very good sense of direction, dungeons frequently feeling too big for a puzzle that really shouldn't take up nearly as much space as it does (although the actual complexity of the dungeons was welcome after two games of fairly lacklustre ones in the 3D side of the franchise), a combat system that felt fairly pointless until it came to darknuts alone, light bugs (more tedious than actually unfun, mostly just neutral), a pointless (and tone-deaf) music system, and two of the most potentially-cool yet ultimately useless items the series has ever given us.

TP is pretty fucking great, though it's not quite top-tier in terms of Zelda games. The one thing it does really well is dungeons, even if they do get a bit formulaic and don't shake things up from the kill mini-boss/get item/use item on final boss pattern.
If you're looking for other Wii U stuff, I'd say give Bayonetta a shot, they're fucking great action games. I just finished up with a 100% file on Bayonetta 2 the other day, and I'm hooked on Platinum stuff right now so I'm going to look for some used copies of some of their other games.
As for other stuff, Tropical Freeze is a great platformer, SM3DW is awesome if you can get a couple buddies to play it with, MK8 is kinda the same way, W101 is real solid if you're into Stylish Action, and so forth. There's really not a shortage of games for the Wii U at the moment, but I just hope that Zelda U delivers when all is said and done. SS left a figurative bad taste in everyone's mouth, but I'm not exactly holding my breath.
