There is a reason why every title with "Nvidia" listed as the "works best with" has shit loads of tessellation and tessellation oceans below the map.
Nvidia has been pushing tessellation and forcing max settings on their games with no way to disable it on their hardware.
Witcher 3 has 64x tessellation you can't disable on Nvidia hardware, and you can't see shit difference between 64x and 8x. It's there as a marketing tool to show "better performance".

engine =/= game. how the devs use the engine to create the game is totally different. it was 100% the devs choice to add that stuff in to the game.

As someone who still owns a 670 it's quite frustrating to see it fall behind a 7850 in some recent games. It used to beat a 7950.
I don't think Nvidia does this on purpose though. Even Maxwell seems to be falling behind in comparison to AMD in recent games.
In the past there were always games that either favored AMD or Nvidia but nowadays it seems like 80/20 in favor of AMD. The gaps also seem bigger than ever.

I got an R9 Fury X last year around December time, and it's a pretty comfy card. The design is quite sleek and it fits nicely in my system thanks to its small form factor. On top of that, the hydro cooling and radiator fit nicely in the back of my machine to pull excess air through.
Frames are quite consistent, even on the highest qualities and resolutions. Very rarely dip below 60.
Overall, my PC has never been cooler and my card rarely reaches 50C on stress.
The price tag was a bit steep though, fortunately I managed to get mine a bit cheaper.
