Splatoon was a brand new IP and an interesting and unique take on a team-based arena shooter.
Star Wars Battlefront was just a cash-in by EA, and was essentially just Battlefield with a Star Wars skin overlaid on it. Also was nothing like the first 2 Battlefronts, thereby alienating every old fan and causing them to not touch EA's with a ten foot pole.

Yeah, Battlefront being in the shadow of its beloved predecessors set a high bar that it didn't seem to be able to clear, so regardless of how good it is in a vacuum it was still a disappointment relatively speaking. Splatoon being a new IP didn't have to deal with this.

splatoon was a new IP from a company that has constantly lost money on risks like new vidya series. battlefront is a "reboot" with multiple game modes, characters, weapons, and features missing from the previous iteration. there is an obvious reason for the hate, and it is completely justified considering how dice handled pr for their game.

I personally find it fun to use the Tom & Jerry method of trying to make a point when playing. If someone is doing something wrong or dumb, I shoot at them and maybe jump around a bit while mashing one of the d-pad commands.
Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't. Either way, the game is simple enough to not really need to say much. You can't fix incompetence.
