What did the other games do better than 3D World? As from a gameplay standpoint I preferred 3D World. U guess in 64/Sunshine you have a large moveset for novelty speedruns, but too much of those games relied on backtracking areas to find stars/coins. Personally, I felt Sunshine is grossly overrated but I think I can agree the wonder of 64 places it firmly at the top, though that may be my nostalgia speaking a bit there. I still believe 3D World is possibly the best 3D Mario game, but that's difficult to argue since they each approach themselves very differently.

Objectively incorrect. No specific games other than maybe some AAA CoD/Asscreed/etc. shovelware will save them from Wii U-tier sales, what they need is a marketing department that actually tries. I mean for shit's sake they don't even have a slogan and their brand image is really unclear these days - are they heading for "hardcore" (with titles like Bayonetta, ZombiU), or going for "family friendly" (Wii Fit U, Wii Party U, Nintendoland), or "nostalgia pandering" (Mario series, Zelda series, Pikmin).

I know Metroid fans, including myself, don't want to accept it but I don't think a new (3D especially) Metroid game would sell well, Other M did too much damage, and unless it goes full-homogenized FPS mode it would have a hard time finding new fans. Splatoon makes more sense to fill the "multiplayer FPS" scene anyway.
