Dead Space 3 had a good customization mechanic. Shame about needing to buy extra resources to buy every upgrade, but you get enough in game to pick a good loadout and stick with it.

There's this free online game on steam. Don't fucking know the name of it. With robots,and see trhough walls for a second shit. Great customization of weapons. The modifications completely change the weapon.
