I want sloth and owl neighbors. I hate that they don't really overlap the breeds of the special NPC and regular NPC (except for monkeys). I also wouldn't be mad at some amiibo-based crossovers, like a Yoshi or King Dedede neighbour when you tap them in.
I also want to play as the town's designer instead of the mayor. Happy Home Designer introduced some really great ideas, and I like being in control of how my town looks. This includes choosing where new villagers plot their homes and all that.

If they keep with the gimmick of the player being the town's mayor, more control over where things are built, at least the option to build "residential areas" where new villagers place their homes if space is available.

I want an animal crossing game where I don't have to play exactly how the game wants me to. I want to run with no worries, I want to get rid of rocks, I want to make sure some villagers will never leave so I can actually stop playing for a while. I want there to be a way to actually speed up some villagers leaving. I want the villagers to actually be somewhat interesting too. For a game called Animal Crossing, there's hardly any focus on the animals. It's just about your house, your character, and in NL, your town. And since villagers have the depth of a dried up puddle, they turn into trophies, like "look my villager doesn't have uchi pieces of shit!"
Playing NL for almost 400 hours has made me kind of hate the game. But I know I'll buy the next (mainline) entry so all I can do is hope it changes up the formula a bit.
Why is romance option a thing now?

Also, you can request villagers to move in with the amiibo cards (and visit the houses of npcs with the cards) and play mini games with the figure amiibos (which you can unlock by being friends with those npcs).

Can someone please explain the appeal of this series to me? I started with New Leaf, which seemed to praised here and I go in and while I enjoy the designs and the setting everything else is just strangely boring
