What's the best version of Rayman 2? I had the dreamcast version as a kid but never finished it because my disc was scratched. Should I get the DC version or the PS2 version? I've played a bit of the PS2 version before and it seemed like the additional content was good. Any reason not to get that one?
>>
I didnt know it was for ps2. I think i had it on ps1. its the only good rayman game as far as im concerned.
>>
DC was best version, followed by PC.
>>
>>334598242
It's one of the most re-released games ever.
N64, PC, DC, PS1, PS2, DS, 3DS

>>334598342
What makes the PS2 version not as good?
>>
>>334598242
>its the only good rayman game as far as im concerned.
>he didn't play origins
>>>/trash/
>>
>>334598452
There isnt a bad rayman game really, but rayman 2 is the best to me. Fair?
>>
>>334598452
I didn't really like origins. It wasn't a bad game but I didn't enjoy it.
I'm still salty over Rabbids though so that may be a contributing factor.
>>
>>334598416
Because the PS2 is shit.

3DS version is the best.
>>
>>334597740
>>334598242
I don't understand the fame of Rayman 2, I realize this may be a controversial opinion but I honestly don't think it was that good - a large portion of the game consists of runner-style sections on the backs of those rocket things or with yourself being chased. The soundtrack is good but other installments did it better. Heck, even Rayman 3 (which, for whatever reason, isn't regarded so highly) is a significantly better 3D platformer - Id basically rank them like so:

Rayman 1 >>> Rayman 3 > Rayman Legends > Rayman Origins >>> Rayman 2 >>>>>>>>> Rabbidshit
>>
>>334598523
fair enough
>>
>>334598802
well for me it was the first one i played so nostalgia basically.

I dont care much for the rayman series otherwise though. I've tried those games, but never think much of it.
I didnt forget raving rabbits but didn twant to bring it up.
>>
>>334598996
But I feel lots of nostalgia for it too, played it in my childhood on Dreamcast, then later emulated the N64 version. I still don't feel the game's that great.
>>
>>334597740
I love the 3DS version as it's a port of the Dreamcast version, has a great 3D effect and you can play it on the go.

It has some bugs, but nothing too serious.
>>
>>334598802
Some of it probably is nostalgia. It got good reviews at the time so maybe it just did something right back then.
>>
>>334599168
Its like mega man legends tier. Its not that substantial of a game, people always call it out for being boring, but its just easy to play.
>>
>>334599378
Is the framerate OK?
>>
I really, really loved Rayman 3.
>>
>>334599480
since it's on the 3ds, yes
>>
PS2 version has some extra bosses and some more hit and miss additions like hubs. It also runs a lot worse than the Dreamcast version. So it basically comes down to whether or not you want extra stuff at the cost of performance.

>>334599480

Rayman 3D is a lazy enough port that it's impossible to 100% it without abusing glitches.
>>
>>334598416
I picked it up a few months ago while it was on sale. Played for 20 minutes, 2/3 of which were cutscenes. Finally get to the point I can play and it ran like shit. I don't even care about framerate unless it's THIS bad.
Oh, and I immediately clipped through a wall and died without trying.
Gave up at that point.
>>
>>334599632
*no
>>
>>334597740
I'm playing through the PS2 version, and I quite like that.
>>
>>334598802
Rayman 2 was a really early 3D platformer that did it's job really well, even with gimmick levels that helped keep interest, and also had a nice enough plot for the time being and really well made boss battles.
Plus it has Rayman's art style backing it up.
>>
>>334599689
I'd be emulating, which may take care of the framerate issues on the PS2 version.

How about the most important question for Rayman 2. Raymanese or English? I like Raymanese more and felt it fit better.
>>
>>334598802
It has a great world, charming style, amazing soundtrack and some really tight controls.
Nostalgia also plays a part.
>>
>>334598802
It has very good atmosphere and a really nice world. The level design is pretty great, it doesn't have a bunch of unnecessary features, and of course the amazing soundtrack. By far the best 3d rayman IMO, 3 bored me to death.
>>
>>334599963
I liked the english VA.

To the people asking what's good about it, I liked the bleak atmosphere that wasn't in many platformers at that time.
>>
>>334599876
Why not just get the PC version at that point?
>>
>Never played Origins or Legends
Should I? If so what one?
>>
>>334600269
Origins if you want better level design+soundtrack
Legends if you want tons more levels and if you have the Vita/Wii U version, the Murfy levels.
>>
>>334600269
Origins.

Afaik Origins contains most of the levels from Legends.

It's very like Donkey Kong Country Returns. A platformer with no big flaws but nothing special.

It's very by-the-numbers.
>>
>>334600269
Legends imo, it's easier but has slightly better controls and level design, although you'll miss out on the lore in Origins, you'll at least be able to play Origins' levels (with improvements)
>>
>>334600239
Fair question. If the PS2 version is better as long as it has a stable framerate then it's probably worth getting that for the extra content.
>>
>>334600429
>>334600269
Shit I mean Legends has most of the Origins levels.
>>
>>334600269
Haven't played Legends, but I've heard its the better one, although it does require uplay or something along those lines.

Origins I personally didn't think was that great, but it might be worth a try.

The port was done by a chinese studio and they changed too much stuff so the game can run proper on the console. They even had to scrap whole levels.

Rayman 3 was a very good game.
The soundtrack had that magical touch, and the hoodlums themes are absolutely great.
The level desgins and platfroming was pretty good and the graphics were good too, also the extra content was amazing.
And still people dont talk about it, and a lot of people say the game was even bad.

Can someone explain it to me?
Because, honestly, i can't understand this.
>>
>>334601531
When it comes to Rayman, since each game is considerably different from one another, there is no true consensus on what game is the best and what isn't.
>>
>>334601531
Agree. And it had a nice sense of humor.
>>
>>334601531
I didn't like the paint cans and i hated the part surfing parts.
>>
>>334601531
While I enjoyed R3, it felt too childish and light-hearted compared to R2.

You went from evil pirates putting people into slavery to disco surfing and wacky clothes.
>>
>>334601369
>Ubisoft stopped making Assassin's Creed games
Good. Maybe they'll come back again when they have some unique ideas rather than rehashing the same thing with a slightly new climbing mechanic and even easier combat.
>>
>>334601531
I like rayman 3 as much as Rayman 2. Some sections maybe focused too much on gimmicks like the power-ups rather than on the core gameplay though.
It was a very funny game and the story moved at a nice pace with good humour throughout.

The firs Rayman GBC game was pretty good for what it was.

Yes. Because while easier, they are better designed. I feel no shame in liking Legends over Origins. Especially considering Legends fixed the enemy placement in Back to Origins levels.

I've played every version of Rayman 2 and the best versions are as following:

PC, Dreamcast, N64, 3DS, PS2, DS, iOS, PS1.

>>334598416
They added lots of unnecessary stuff to make the game feel "fresh" like an open-world hub which isn't that bad. But then there's a billion different power-ups you can buy in the store, added levels who are unnecessary and feels worse. And they added English voices which are awful, Gibberish is the way to go.
>>
>>334602938
Rayman 1 had the shmup levels, it's a callback to them.
>>
>>334603065
>>334602940
What's better about PC than the Cast?
>>
I think the only problem with Rayman 2 is that it's been ported so many times over the years it's hard for people to be too nostalgic about it.
>>
>>334597740
You do know you can just burn Dreamcast games, right? No need to hunt a copy from some ebay jew unless you enjoy collecting.
>>
>>334603293
I'm planning to emulate or play the PC version.
>>
Definitive platform for each game:

Rayman 1: Playstation
Rayman 2: Dreamcast or PS2 (for bonus content)
Rayman 3: HD remake on PS3 or Xbox 360
Origins: Any version but the 3DS port
Legends: Vita or Wii U
>>
>>334603238
You can change resolution and play with the gamepad of your choice, provided you change some small setting in a document.

Also it's just got overall better graphical fidelity. The GoG version is great because it works brilliantly on modern computers. At least it did for me.

I imagine all versions are "playable" but I was asking for the overall best version.

I actually don't trust a lot of modern HD ports, because they tend to be done by new teams who have nothing to do with the original dev team and/or don't even have access to the original source code. Even the best HD remasters like MGS2/3 have flaws like missing visual effects, so sometimes it's best to go with the original version or a closely-released upgraded port done by the original team for the full experience.

Rayman 2 is a good example. People keep saying the original N64/PC or DC versions are the best, and sure enough those are the ones done by the original team whereas the other shoddy versions are done by second-party arms of Ubisoft.
