Instead of "fun" could use such buzzwords as "immersive", "unique" and "innovative".
But yeah, this game belongs to a genre that died in its infancy which i really love.
The game combined the ability to control multiple units under your command, the interface for doing that from first person was surprisingly easy and the unit AI was very reliable.
The movement and battle mechanics were also innovative, with your unit having some mass but also full ability to strafe, and projectiles having limited speed, it meant the battles were not instant and being good required a lot of skill. Combine that with the fact said battles usually were in the form of "many vs many", which you could observe from above after getting catapulted from your tank.

Made merely just a year later, this sequel improved various elements of the previous games and tried some new stuff as well.
It had solid and slick platforming and action, brand new weapons and reintroducing some fan favorites, making an all-around larger arsenal, the compensation for lock-on and strafing introduced harder and faster enemies to challenge you, tons of planets/levels to occupy you, along with arena levels, racing minigames, and tons of collectibles with some incentive to go for them. You couldn't go wrong with this game.

Fast paced gameplay with an emphasis on the word fast, great visuals for its time, set a precedent for the electronic musical genre in vidya. If you liked a future setting, sleek designs and colorful schemes with a pounding soundtrack then this vidya would have been for you as it was for me. It has a great story and is an excellent sequel, since it picks up right where you left off and improves from the original in almost every aspect (except for the setting perhaps).
It has a baller OST, the gameplay is deep and engaging, since you can exploit your enemies' weaknesses just as they can easily exploit yours if you are not careful. And has lots of ways to customize your party through rings, the ability to change skills on the go, and choosing which skills and which paths you want your characters to take thanks ta very unique way to customize you party through the hunting system, which alsoencourages you to mix up your tactics installows you to much build your party from scratch, so you can make any kind of team you want.

I have the idea that it was about picking up popular songs from the 70s-80s and remix them to how they would sound in a dystopian future by slowing them down, adding bits from other popular media and making it feel as if it was "glitched" and dreamy.
Which is all a bit reminicent of how electronic music was born in the old Eastern Germany, since popular western pop-music was banned there.

You are a god damn knight opossum with a jet pack, that is just bad ass. It has plenty of bosses with mini bosses along with stage end bosses, the guy that worked on some Contra games worked on this so you do see a nod to Contra and even a boss and stage from Gradius.
As I said you are a knight with a jet pack so you can use your jet pack to bounce off of walls to get to higher places in different angles or thrust yourself at the enemy and mess them up rocketing into them sword first. There is a good variety of stages with excellent level design which always has you doing something and some sequences that are unique to those levels withing the game. You also have a rival black knight opossum that you do a one on one showdown with. This game has got it all.

Dwarf Fortress is the best game I know of.
Even though it might not be the game I have played the most (though it may be), its sheer ambition amazes me. Even during times when I am not playing it, I like to just check the main page to see what new updates Toady has made, and they are always blow my mind.
It's the most genuine and infallible attempt at making a game that I have ever seen. He is making the game that he wants to play, and, rather than charging, he's just accepting donations to pay for it; it's a fucking inspiration for anyone that has a game idea.
