I'm sure Tomato's translation could use a change or two but I'm 100% more accurate and better written then whatever Nintendo would give us. Also it would cause a lot of debate on what is the name for different things.
I'll risk a shitty localization just for the attention and money the series might gain. I've played the amazing fan translation anyway.

I could play it on music, story and characters alone. The world was so immersive for me. It was pretty barren though. Searching for 20 minutes just to find a quiche can be pretty unrewarding.

To be honest mother 2 is also very linear and straightforward, I do agree that mother 3 could have been less linear. Mother 3 could actually be argued as less linear having most of the needles be in your choice of order. In mother 2 other then doing the second or third sanctuary later in the game. Have you tried mother 1, its pretty open ended at times.

If it does get localized it'll be popular.
If it gets popular, more knowledge of the Tomato translation will be widely spread.
If people become more aware of accurate, uncensored and still charming translations like that one, it may become more common for people to decry NoA's localization team.
I'd pray to all religion's gods for NoE, who localized Xenoblade Chronicles, to become the new standard for localization.

Yup I love the first. I think it's very underated. The story is amazing, I love the uneasy atmosphere, the music is great, the partners are great, it's all just good fun.

I doubt Treehouse would alter too much about this game because it's considered a classic and a masterpiece. And since the fan translation has been out so long everyone already knows what the game is supposed to be like, so Nintendo probably wouldn't allow a translation to change too much so as not to encourage people to not buy the official product over the fan one.
Plus I have a feeling there's already a translation sitting somewhere in a Nintendo vault like what happened with Mother 1.
Also my only problem with the fan translation is the couple of arbitrary name changes. I just don't get why they did that.
