3DS is getting at the end of it's lifespan. It's about five years old. 3ds is getting outdated. Smartphones are getting more powerful than the 3ds. They announced that the game will come out for 3ds. I was disappointed.
Next handheld will probably be beyond PS3 graphics. PS3 is old technology itself. It would had been nice to have a Pokemon game a beyond PS3 graphics level.

They could barely handle the regular 3DS and they still haven't tried fiddling with the N3DS.

The best we can hope for are baby steps in the right directions every installment.
Consider X/Y. There's barely any 3D, and any wide shot or attempt at using 3D in combat in a game with borderline DSi graphics makes it turn into a slideshow.
We are a LOT of baby steps away from "PS3 graphics".

I suppose maybe less generic animations for battles might be one thing, but it would be an insane undertaking to animate hundreds of attacks for over 700 different Pokemon and have to account for every possible matchup.
It is pretty weird that they'd want to release a big game on a console with 60 million out there as opposed to a brand new console. Wwwwweird...
