Funnily enough, while HotS gets shat on the most its probably the best blizzard game since WotLK. Its quick, its fast-paced, its very fluid and hassle-free unlike other ASSFAGGOTS.
I like the characters having a gorillion lines for eachother, the waifus and having a shit ton of maps to play but the game isnt very deep. Its a nice timewaster to play from time to time but after a couple dozen games you will be left wanting for either an actual action game or an actual strategy game.
It's got unique heroes and map objectives, but there's not much else to it. Since release it has improved a lot to the point where it's pretty much an entirely different game now.
Hopefully they keep making good changes and keep polishing it, so far it's looking good. All that needs to happen are a few more hero re-works.

1. You don't play against a smaller pool of heroes in League, you play a smaller pool of heroes in League - big difference.
2. You cannot even look at your allies or enemies abilities in-game to read/learn what they do. You cannot even look at how your abilities scale unless you're leveling it up and that's only for the next level meaning you cannot see any notable power spikes. Not sure on this but you cannot see AP/AD scaling as well?
3. You have limited-heroes in Dota 2, which means a smaller pool of heroes for you, your allies and your enemies to learn.
4. Dota 2 has a demo-mode which you can click for every hero to view, test and play with everything.
Nearly every piece of information League players learn comes from their wikia. Not the game.

Play with friends and you'll have a good time. The game is all about playing as a team.
Almost no character in the game can 1v2. There is no such thing as carrying a game by yourself. In DotA 2 or LoL, you can overcome a shitty teammate by being amazing. That is almost impossible in Heroes. Going into an undersized engagement (2v3, 3v4 etc) is always a risk unless you severely outlevel your opponents.
Pushing lanes and soaking experience is just as important (and sometimes more important) than any of the big map objectives. But like I said above, any engagement 4v5 is going to be really dicey for the 4 person side so pay attention to how aggressive your team is.
Good communication and effective teamplay will win you the game. Thinking you're a god and trying to wreck an engagement 1v2 or 1v3 will almost always get you killed no matter the circumstances, and lose you the game.

It's really casual, but pretty fun. I like that matches are usually about 20-30 minutes. I used to play DotA 2 a lot, but investing over an hour of effort into a game and still lose can be brutal. Losing in a match that was only 20-30 minutes makes it less devastating when you lose.
Plus, I really like a good number of heroes. Anub'arak and Zagara are my favorites.

Its not better, its even worse, but its forgiveable because it was just a dinky custom map trying to get the most out of WC3 mechanics.

League has too many dashes and shit meant for "outplays" not to mention devs are pushing for tank meta since forever
Smite is fun but honestly think that making it close to a fps kinda shits on stuff like positioning since you can pick a really hard tank and just stand in the frontile soaking up everything.
