Why hasn't there been a good Korean War video game yet?

Why is the Korean War more ignored than even the Vietnam War in vidya?
>>
Because its the forgotten war, dummy.
>>
>WW2 just ended
>literally who country
>followed by the more famous Vietnam War

What do you think?
>>
>>334492050

You fucking idiot, that's Ace Combat 5
>>
>>334492138
this desu
Vietnam War has impacted popular culture much more while the only people who give a shit about Korean War are the Koreans.
>>
>>334491979

My great grandfather was German and fought in the Werchmant in the Eastern front and one time was surrounded by like a million Soviets in Demodokov (or however you spelled it). His unit eventually surrender to the Americans and became an American citizen and signed up for the Army and went to Korea where they were surrounded by the Chinese at Chosin.
>>
The Korean War did spawn one of the most highly-regarded television shows. Its finale even holds the record for most simultaneous viewers of a non-sporting-event. For its part, Vietnam had, what, two major movies? Apocalypse Now and Full Metal Jacket. But from an American perspective, World War II was the last sexy war, so it gets all the attention. It's pretty much been nonstop disaster since then.
>>
>>334492804

M*A*S*H was really about the vietnam war anon

>>
>>334492953
Alan Alda probably made it about the Vietnam War, but for the first season or two it was pretty straight. No matter the commentary, though, the show was still set in and on-the-surface about Korea.
>>
>>334492804
>implying this hard
Maybe this would be true if you meant disaster for our enemies. We've been winning nonstop.
>>
>>334493351

...You never watched the movie, did you? Had Donald Sutherland in it?

You should watch the movie.
>>
>>334493441
Not that anon but I think he meant that romantic warfare died after WW2.
>>
>>334491979

Game-mechanic wise it was just WWII

Why make another WWII game when there hasn't been one made in decades?
>>
>>334492050
>>
>>334493517
I haven't seen the movie, but then the book (which I haven't read) was written by a doctor at a MASH unit during the Korean War. So there's that.

There were a lot of men in that war that had to turn into stone cold killers in order to survive human wave attacks. The stories of the hand to hand with the chinese is some visceral shit. People forget they actually captured one of our battle flags when they over ran an entire combat line and then scoobied out with it while GIs were bashing in heads with rocks and jamming their thumbs in chinese eye sockets.

That thing specifically refers to the Korean War from 1950 to 1953. US forces haven't actively fought the Norks in decades.

Go ahead, tell me what year the Korean War ended.
>>
>>334491979
Are you really asking why the Forgotten War is given less attention than more prominent ones?

I'll give you a couple of quick reasons that both deal with how the human psyche work.
1) It was the first blatant failure of US foreign policy since the whole exceptionalism stuff kicked in about 50 years earlier. As in it got a lot of people killed for nothing. And the US is so wrapped up in the world's view of pop culture that if we ignore it and sweep it under the rug, everyone does.
2) We are still at war with North Korea. I don't mean hurr durr ideological stuff. No we literally are still at war. That makes it real murky grounds to do something like a game. Especially with the last 10 or so years with the Kims acting up. They cross the 38th and we are legally obligated to get back in the fight.

Shit is weird with Korean war stuff. It was brutal and ugly and treated like it never happened. Vietnam was nearly the same but the Boomers that pretend they stopped it by not showering and doing acid love to suck their own dick so we'll Fortunate Son it forever.
>>
>>334493756
The dudes in the bottom left are in desert storm equipment, bottom middle Vietnam (m60), and the bottom right WWII kit. I'd guess it's a somewhat generic design the town ordered and put Korean war info on.

Same reason why the Spanish Civil War is never talked about. WWI happened and WWII starts immediately after the SCW ends. Just overshadowed by bigger conflicts.

Imagine if a modern M1 Abrams was sent back in time to WWII what the krauts/japs would think of it.

They were in the sense that they tolerated private industry as long as it capitulated to the state and did a little house cleaning to get rid of the Strasserists and other fellow Mazis who took the "socialist" part of the name a little more literally during the night of the long knives. Also Ernst Rohm because his gay antics with the SA were becoming embarrassing. Both of these things were done to make the party more appealing to the conservative elements of Germany so they would side with the NSDAP against the commies and other leftists.
>>
>>334498440
Theyou had capitalistic elements, yes, but most countries do. It's a bit of a stretch to call them capitalists, especially as a defining characteristic.

Unless you want a singleplayer game or anything with a story in it I guess there is little games that cover this war. Though if you are looking for multiplayer experience then maybe you should try out War Thunder. It has Sabres, Mig 15s and 17s, hunters, meteors etc. It is a f2p game so getting up to that point is kinda a pain.

>>334502937
I think what he means is that there are still two separate countries, and the war didn't actually end. No one would argue that Best Korea is actually better off
>>
>>334502937
The war WAS inconclusive. Politically, it was a 'win' for NATO. It was a stalemate on a strategic and tactical level.

The fact they're still at war just further reinforces this.
