Mirror's Edge Catalyst:
>the game literally shows you where to go, where to jump etc
>ubisoft-style open world, with filler missions and lots of collectible thingies
>you need to get XP to level up and unlock parkour manouvers (even simple ones like swinging on a pipe)
>more focus on story
>combat is optional but is almost not-optional (gotta get XP to unlock new parkour moves)

Do you think this game can be good anyway?

Also simplified controls. Absolutely disgusting.

I saw there's a grappling hook in the unlocks. That's what ruined the parkour in Dying Light, which was somewhat okay there since by the time you got it the game was more about combat than running away. But what the fuck are they thinking adding one here?

that should've been obvious from the day they had Anita show up as a consultant, when Anita thought having to press two buttons was TOO HARD for gurl gamurs (meanwhile japanese 3 year olds have been capable of pressing two buttons to play a game since fucking MARIO was released in the 80s)

>>334483217
>the game literally shows you where to go, where to jump etc
The first game had this as well and you can turn that off. In the first game it had obvious hints only in the first parts of the game, and I'm pretty sure it will be like that in Catalyst as well. I will turn that off anyway, so I don't care.
>ubisoft-style open world, with filler missions and lots of collectible thingies
I kinda like that approach in this case because I've been replaying ME1 for years. More content is good even it is filler content. It's EA so DLC is inevitable, and it's alright as well if you ask me. A lot of people were demanding open world so if sequel would be a linear game it would get even more hate
>you need to get XP to level up and unlock parkour manouvers (even simple ones like swinging on a pipe)
Don't care really
>more focus on story
But it was bad in ME, so what's wrong with them trying to improve that aspect?

What I don't like is the cyberpunk setting and teenage movie-style plot. I can forgive that, though. It seems like all new EA games suck at things I don't give a shit about - I really enjoyed new NFS, and I've never used manual transmission before, core gameplay was pretty good, so I had fun. pretty sure I will have some fun with new ME as well.

FUCK FUCK FUCK FUCK FUCK JUST WHY FUCK FUCK YOU SO MUCH EA.

I can deal with the gigantic red line showing you exactly where to go and how to do things, because i'll just turn it off and keep the items glowing red like in the original. I can also deal with simpler controls because whatever. But i can't deal with this bullshit that you have to actually run around and grind enemies for exp to unlock shit, are you fucking kidding me? That is not mirror's edge at all. Fuck everything.

You can turn off the "JUMP HERE!!!" and "THIS WAY BRO" things, but apparently you can't turn the red indicators (like there were in the 1st game) off anymore.

I don't understand why you would put basic movement behind XP unlocks. I mean I'm sure the logic is "play the game the way YOU want to; fully edit your character how you want" except that's bullshit. Can anyone think of these open world games where you're either not given enough XP to get everything or that doesn't have one ability/path that's clearly superior to everything else so everyone levels up the same way?

>EA making a sequel to an unexpectedly popular game

Anyone who ever believed this could be good was deluding themselves. Of course it's going to be terrible. They will have tried to hone in on what made the original game popular, missed the point, picked all the wrong things, focus tested the shit out of those things with the completely wrong people, then dissected those things to try and monetise them as best they can.

Hell, if nothing else: full cutscenes where you see faith in third person. That alone kinda slaps the original in the face.

Same people, same names, same city but different story and approach.

The enemies look and behave exactly like the bad guys in the last couple of Battlefield games' single player campaigns, right down to them suddenly transitioning out of that awkward idle animation on detecting the player. You just do multiple finisher animations instead of instantly winning one to defeat them.

Did anyone else really like the appearance and sound of the guns in the first ME, if nothing else I don't think its future lay in becoming a shooter but I don't think this was a good direction to take either.

>>
There's literally nothing wrong with upgrading if it's done right, literally every single good action game has upgrades

There's literally nothing wrong with gunplay in a parkour game. Honestly it would be great if they refined the shit controls of the guns and implemented the gunplay into the parkour

There's literally nothing wrong with open world.

There's literally nothing wrong with something showing you the general path, especially if the game is open world. Mirror's Edge did this anyways through the use of red and white. The game is about flow and control, not trying to figure out a fucking path

Fuck off whining about this casualization bullshit. I'm better at Mirror's Edge than anyone in this thread and Mirror's Edge had a lot of room for improvement.

Who still hypede for the OST here?

I still have the looped track from the trailer that came out 3 years ago. The open world combined with the dynamic music based on your music will be so fucking relaxing for me.

I honestly can't tell if it's just mindless baiting or if they're shitposting with an agenda. Maybe a bit of column A, a bit of column B.
>>
i just came back from the adult video store adjacent to the gamestop and the entire asian american shelf is empty
>>
>>334483217
And the press will be like
>nice evolution
>dev really nailed it this time
>Faith isn't an empty shell anymore
>lots of things to do
>fuck yeah they get rid of gunfights
>8/10
>>
>>334483217
>>the game literally shows you where to go, where to jump etc
pretty sure the first one did that too
>>
>>334509864
Not the way it does in the new game.
In the first you had some red spots.
In Catalyst you have a red ghost who runs right before you.
>>
>>334509359
Tell me how the controls are any different from the first game. The only difference is that certain basic moves are now hidden behind unlockable skills, but the button scheme is exactly the same as movement is concerned.
>>
>>334510001
>In Catalyst you have a red ghost who runs right before you.
This sounds worse than prostate cancer.
>>
>>334510143
I'm not telling you that. I'm talking about the others who are.
>>
>>334483217
Since when was Mirror's Edge good?

The first game was a snorefest. The novelty of the parkour wore off quickly.

It had insanely good atmosphere. Most games fail at that.
>>
>>334483217
I hope they leave an option to turn some of that path finding shit off like in the first game
>>
>>334483302
Actually that kinda makes sense...
>>
>>334498874
Did Faith suddenly get over that by the next game?
>>
ONE

MOVEMENT

fucking cunts
>>
>>334513647
it has been confirmed, you can turn off any kind of path/help both during missions and on free roam (of course). I heard by default, it's on in missions, but as I said, you can turn it off
>>
>>334514129
This gotta be OP baiting for replies, no other explanation

Who knows, we haven't played the next game yet, have we.

install 4chan x faggot

and no, the controls have literally been streamlined to fuck
>>
>>334514420
Catalyst is a prequel. Mirror's Edge is the next story-wise chronologically speaking
>>
>>334514129
I heard the entire game is just one long cutscene
>>
>>334514526
Nah, though. Nah.
>>
>>334514565
nah it isn't that bad pham
>>
what's with all the fags itt defending the game already
EA shilling doesn't start until the month of release
>>
>>334483217
>the game literally shows you where to go, where to jump etc
Just like the first one

>ubisoft-style open world, with filler missions and lots of collectible thingies
Nice, more stuff to do and you can chill in the city all you like

>you need to get XP to level up and unlock parkour manouvers (even simple ones like swinging on a pipe)
Nice, progresion its fine and doesn't allow you to be OP from the start

>combat is optional but is almost not-optional (gotta get XP to unlock new parkour moves)
You can get xp on different ways, also the combat lools better, unlike the first game

I guess its just going to feel different
>>
>>334514634
I hadn't thought of it that way.
>>
It's a good game, it's just not a good Mirror's Edge game.

Graphically it looks just like ME from 2009, why is one DICE team so good at graphics (Battlefront) and the others are so bad (ME)?

You can turn off the runner's vision, or activate a more simplistic version of it (more like how it was in the original)
>>

that made me so moist
>>
>>334513784

there's something about the graphics that just look dated, as if nothing has improved whatsoever since a decade ago

Can you disable the trail that shows you where to go? It really is some bullshit, I don't need the game holding my hand like that.

I think ME:C might be the game with the most handholding as far as direction is concerned. All they're missing is a minimap with a line telling you where to go and a Crazy Taxy arrow and they would have literally done everything possible.

Those can all be disabled though, right?

One of the reason the first game was cool was because it was the environment that clued you in with colors, not some BS magic cocaine trail you follow.

>>334517068
I get hating the other stuff, but why is everyone shitting on collectibles?

I think it's a neat idea, especially if they provide more information about the world and whatnot. Mirror's Edge has a neat world that's only slightly touched upon, and finding newspaper articles, documents, etc would be a good way to expand that world in a way that doesn't bog down the main story.

>unlock more moves so I can parkour around the city faster than I already can

Jesus Christ I want this game to be good. But it's not going to be. Fuck this gay earth.
